inb4 “my uncle cop isn’t bad!” I know, I know, it’s just for the title
See Chase DRESSES like a cop but PAW Patrol is essentially just a band of mercenaries. The people of the PAW Patrol town never call their actual police force if you’ve noticed (from what I’ve seen). I’m convinced they were rightfully defunded and funds were put into this team of dogs, who are each experts in their respective fields. They also all work very well together, which makes them more efficient than any real emergency response team.
Sure, Chase wears a uniform and drives a police-themed vehicle, but when you take a closer look at how PAW Patrol functions as a group, it becomes clear that this isn’t your standard search-and-rescue. It’s a self-contained, highly specialized tactical unit. Each dog is a master in their own niche: for example, Sky handles aerial recon, Rubble deals with construction and rescue, Marshall covers medical and firefighting needs, some other dogs do other things, and Chase does police-work, but without the authoritarian baggage. They’re more like a task force of highly competent volunteers than anything resembling a traditional police force.
So when I say mercenaries, it’s not like they fall in line with that label either - they do this shit without even asking for money. It’s a form of radical volunteerism. I mean, they do it out of the kindness of their hearts. Mercenaries, by strict definition, are individuals who participate in conflict for personal gain, usually financial. But PAW Patrol complicates this definition. They don’t take money. They’re not working for profit. They are volunteers.
One of the most telling elements of the show is that, in times of crisis - no matter how major or minor - nobody dials 911. Instead, they call Ryder, a ten-year-old boy who somehow has more leadership skill and logistical capacity than most mayors, certainly more than Mayor Goodway of Adventure Bay. Where are the actual emergency services? They don’t exist. And nobody misses them.
Finally, can I be honest? They show up faster than any emergency response team, making them much more efficient. PAW Patrol CARES. They show up- not for glory, not for fame- but to lend an helping paw. Their motivation is compassion, not control.
Abolish the police and replace them with a team like PAW Patrol, yes, even Chase.
