You could sum it all up in one word.
Immersion. Amazing graphics aren't necessary, but they sure help. A game needs a solid storyline. Yes, that's right, it needs depth. It should avoid clichés, although some games have made it work. Balanced mechanics and good AI are imperative, nothing brings you out of it more than npc's running face first into walls. And above all, if the gameplay stinks, not even any of the above can save it. This is not the pastry you are looking for.

I have a great passion for electronic music, and think it would be nice to have a thread for discussion of this genre, and share favourite artists. If you don't have anything constructive to say, don't bother commenting.
