It used to only be an additional dot at the end of the sentance. It seems that wasn't enough from some immature jokes, so the is would come in handy to prevent it.

To buy someone's art and use it for your profile sounds cheap to me.
My dad was an artist, and when his painting were sold, people would stick them up to the wall. Not to show off that they own it now, but to appreciate the drawings of another. If people would "buy" other's painting here, they would most likely use it as their avatar. And then it looks like I would be a greater artist, because I'm too lame to make my own creation. Darn people, dem' colors aren't fruity enough for you? So what? I loved it back when it was only red, so it was clear that those people had the most important job. When the newer jobs came out, the colors were only but an addition. Later discovered that after all that unwanted drama, it's easier just to check the moderator's profile or to check the /adminlist (which surprisingly is still there!).
With all the new sections, you can't possibly make a color for every new authority you get for each of them. And that is the main point why it's back to 1-color only. Wait, you so badly want to make another confusing of which moderator has what with a fancy color on your name? You know you can always edit the site elements on a computer, from there you can give your name any color you want.
