This blog will be to explain pros and cons of Censorship.
What is Censorship? -Censorship is the process mail goes through to check for certain qualities. Censorship has 5 levels, each represented by a letter. F: Bomb screening, the letter is tested for explosives. E: Poison screening, the censor sniffs the envelope for poison. D: Final inspection before sent to section C. C: Censor reads the contents of the letters. Looks for direct statements to overthrow the goverment or terrism etc... B: The letter is checked a bit more consisly. The letter is checked for suspicous words such as: End, Off,Set,Signal, consisly, or phrases like "Don't forget to water the lawn at 2:30." Anything suspicious. A: These are the people that take anything as a threat. If they see phrases like "The weather is kind of cloudy, it needs some sunlight", or "I need to get a new house, this one is going to be demolished." they will censor the letter and maybe even get the writer prosecuted. Dictatorship influenced censorship. Censorship was big back in Argentina in the 1900s. During the 1900s Argentina had a weak goverment and wanted to prevent the revolutions that happened due to their weak government. Pros: -Protected the country -Protected the goverment -Created jobs -Created a system for mail Cons: -Didn't allow freedom of speach -Killed inoscent people -Low wages -Censors didn't always get background checks before they started working -Alot of letters were trashed -No privacy Overally, I believe censorship in Argentina in the 1900s was terrible. The censors didn't give the people a chance to explain their letter and were executed if the letter was censored. Censorship has evolved since than and is now an average fair routine. The censors, a short story by Luisa Valenzuela. Im resubmitting this because of the current website crisis. Lately if you have been on mozilla firefox or other add on sites, they have been stressing about censorship. Instead of mail censorship, now they are focusing on website cencorship. To give you a un-biased view im going to list the top 3 pros and cons. Pros 1."Less job applicants declined." 2."Boost economy" 3."Allow new sites to rise" Cons 1.less Freedom 2.Restrictions 3.hard work wasted. I will go intofurther detail later |
