|Chain Letters: Why So Threatening?|
Posted 23 Mar 2012 00:58
Everybody, at least once in their life, has recieved a horrible chain letter in their inbox on email before, with a threat deep in it depths. For example: IF YOU DON`T FORWARD THIS TO 20 PEOPLE YOU WILL LOSE SOMEONE! These chain letters are cruel, and threatening. You could actually sue somebody fir sending a threatning chain letter, if it is bad enough. It forces people into revealing the malicious letter to their connections. People make these chain letters for personal gain. The further their chain goes, the more virtually “famous” they become. It also makes them feel self accomplished and proud. Many kids are lead to believe that if they want a high and maintained social status, they have to fulfill the letter`s requests. Some children are lead to believe that people in their family will die, if they don`t pass on the letter. Others think that their love life will get greatly and positively affected. This is just plain wrong! These letters are scams, and made up. Children have actually commited suicide because of certain threats. One child killed herself because a letter warned that: “If you don`t send this to 32 people, you will accidently seriously injure a loved one.” There are things that people can do to stop these horrible chains.
1. Don`t pass the chain on. Ignore what it says. If it`s from a complete stranger, and has a very frightening threat, tell an adult, or the authorities immediately.
2. Reply to the sender saying what you feel about the threatning email, and how it`s not right to do the chain. Don`t reply too.
3. Report the person to their email service. These chains are sometimes considered spam.
Not all chain letters are bad. Many of them are helpful. Make sure you can tell the difference.
