Some Random Funny Facts About Nintendo

I was watching a YouTube video today about this guy talking about Nintendo 64s. He was talking about how Nintendo had all these special limited editions for their consoles. Than he was talking about how the N64 was unique from other Nintendo consoles in the fact it had an arch. He was saying something along the lines of this:

"The NES, looks like a box with straight edges and nothing sticking out of it.SNES looks kind of boxy with its sharp edges and straight lines.Than you have the N64, which is awesome, because it hasAn arch, and little feet, and it doesn't look like a friggen box. The GameCube, literally a box. Than the Wii, which looks like a friggen book. All of the Nintendo consoles look like friggen boxes, except for the N64. I'm surprized no-one else on YouTube has picked that up."

I thought that was funny. Than I was hearing about 3DS stuff [different guy]. He was saying how Nintendo had made a previous attempt at 3D, but failed miserably, giving people headaches and giving them nnausea, than never mentioned it for many years.

I ran into some other funny facts about Nintendo before they were a video game company. First they were a playing card company, making typical playing cards like what you would use in Texas Hold Em'. When that failed they tried other franchises, such as a taxi company. And a Love hotel chain. Imagine that, Nintendo's name before something other than a gaming device. "Nintendo Taxi Service" or "Nintendo Love Hotel" or "Nintendo Playing Cards." xD It just makes no sense! But all very funny at the same time. I was pretty amused when I read that, to say the least!

Kinda makes you wonder where Sony and SEGA started. Hmmm. Until next time.

They produced cards for the game.
The game itself has been played for generations.

OK, I just Wikipedia'd N8ntendo, and I was wrong about the cards. They made a card game called Hanafuda. Still popular today, and also has competitions today, such as the Nintendo Cup.

Some people are too lazy to Google this.

Lulz, Love Hotels used to be very popular, and they still make trading cards.

Haha, look up Apple. They had a color-capable handheld system before the Game Boy existed, but it never sold due too poor marketing.

SEGA = "SErvice GAmes"

That was their start.

As for Nintendo, the Super NES wasn't so much a box, since the top has a smaller section that extended upward in the first model and a curvy surface in the revised model.

Nintendo actually had two previous attempts at 3D. The first use anaglyph glasses on the NES in the late '80s. This was for a racing game called Famicom Grand Prix II: 3D Hot Rally.

In the mid 1990s, virtual reality was all the rage. The bulky headsets were at every county fair or amusement park. Any TV show with even a hint at sci-fi had an episode about the characters being trapped in virtual worlds. SEGA had dabbled with VR headsets in movie theaters, so Nintendo saw the potential for home use. Thus came the Virtual Boy.

I believe it originally sold for $200 and games at $30. It was a great idea, but there were two major flaws:

1. To save on cost, they developed a display that only showed a single bar of red per eye and has mirrors rapidly oscillate to generate the full displays.
2. To play games, one had to lean over a table with the face pressed against a set of bipodded goggles.

This combination caused eye and back strain after sitting for long periods of time.

Worldwide, only around a dozen games came out, and the 2-player link cable was scrapped. After less than a year, the system was discontinued, and stores cleared it from inventory for $30 and $10 per game. (I made sure to snatch it up then!)

Over the past several years, I've been able to get the majority of the games and even a second Virtual Boy at yard sales. I even have one game still factory sealed. It's a great conversation piece.

If you're curious as to what the games looked like in 3D, I've posted seval screenshots to the 3D Photo Gallery on 3DSPaint.com. It was difficult to take the pictures, due to the "eyes" on the 3DS camera being closer than the span of the Virtual Boy's display, but some images weren't too bad. You can get an idea, nonetheless.
