Operation Chatroom Revival

You know there's a problem when chatmins outnumber regular users.

It's been some time since I've had options in the chatrooms, /chatswapping around to see which room had a discussion worth jumping into. As of lately, the chatrooms have been populated by the same few people. Thing is, I don't find them all that amusing most of the time. No offense.

Why is this? Probably because everyone is cooped up in their inbox/outbox, or spamming the gazillions of groups that are available. How about you take it to the chatrooms? Yeah, you're at a higher risk of being banned, but that's when you can go back to mailing/spamming groups, right? Take chances.

"But I'm messaging, like, 5 other
people." One of the main excuses I receive when trying to get someone mailing me to jump into a chatroom.
Here's another idea, invite them to chat too Right, right?
I'm making sense here aren't I?
What are you discussing in mail that can't be taken to a chatroom?
General chats? We got that.
Role playing chats? Oh snap, we got that too.
Your friend only speaks French, so he won't really fit in with all the English speakers. Well, I guess you got me--- Wait no, we got that as well

Cybering? Yeah, you can keep that in the messages.
Brewing up a mean Drama Gumbo? Yeah, you can keep that private.
Something a bit to personal that you can only express to a really close friend? Go ahead, keep mailing.

I'm not saying that you shouldn't have general discussions through mail, but damn, have you seen the chatrooms lately? They should be renamed Tumbleweeds, Crickets, Awkward Silence, & Brb--- NOT. But I don't want that to happen.

Yeah, the Grammar Nazis can get annoying; yeah, you'll run into some instigators and know-it-alls; yes, beware of trolls and all that good stuff. Just don't let them keep you from easily chatting with friends, rather than lingering on the Home Page, waiting for a reply in mail.

You can always use /block, /chatswap is also another option. and if they continue to pester you, you should just be flattered because they're obviously crushing

So yeah, that's about it. I challenge you all to revive the chatrooms.

Will you accept?
Or fail like a big poopy head?

Thank you.

Bleh... I don't go in chatrooms anymore. .-. People get banned for the silliest things, and... it's just not worth it. So I prefer messaging.

Great idea. I've avoided the chats for these reasons alone, but I do want to start using them again. Put this into action and it would do a lot of good.

Alrighty, here's my take on why this is;

1. The whole Ip block thingie has not been allowing completely new members make an account. Many complaints on the helpdesk have been made stating that their friends haven't been able to make an account on here even though they are at a completely different IP than the friend who already has an account on here. I'm not quite sure if this has been happening to everyone, or just to a select few who attempt to make an account on here. I say this because summer on SDK usually marks a time where many new users come And go to the chats, and this summer, that hardly has happened.

2.Us admins being too uptight. This isn't for all the admins, just a good portion of us, we're so uptight on the rules that we ban for the littlest of things nowadays. I personally am like that sometimes, but have been becoming more lenient on my banning considering it is summer and people want to be with their friends. Banning people for talking in the RP chats is a big reason why people hid in their inbox for RP instead of the chats, and I personally think it's silly to ban someone for that (even though I have banned some people for that very reason, though just following what I thought were the rules) then it came to my attention that Hull never said for banning of that reason, the purpose of the Rp rooms was to direct roleplaying there and not the normal chats, but normal chatting is permitted. Getting a little sidetracked there, but anyways, we as admins on this site need to be more thoughtful and considerate of the users on here, yea they may be a pain and ask the most rhetorical questions, but that's why we were put into the position, to help those people out.

3.trolling is another big one as you stated in your blog. Trolling surprisingly happens a lot on here, on a daily basis, people getting under each others skin as much as they can to what I guess is for getting a good laugh? It drives people away, because no one wants to be trolled, be made fun of, or be disrespected. the chat rooms use to be a pretty chill place to hang out, could get some pretty interesting conversations started, and everyone was usually pretty decent friends to each other. Now people are constantly bickering and whatnot over the littlest of things, and that drives people away from something like the chat rooms. So grow up trolls, it was funny at one point, but it's going to far.

There's tons more reasons why the chats are dead, and I would go through more, but my hand hurt from typing all this out xD feel free to add on! Oh and good blog!
They started banning for talking in the rp rooms because trolls would go in and start arguments.

Or you know, you could go out and live a little. Maybe that's what most people are doing right now during Summer, hmm?

I'm pretty sure people were living a little the past few summers. I'm pretty sure that's not the main reason.

& nice blog, IronShadow
