He awoke an hour later, his entire body aching. The lights were off in his apartment, he could still hear the rain outside.
"....Luke?" She was still there. He remembered now, they had been talking. With effort, he sat up. She pushed him back down. "Stay, you need to rest. What...happened?" He bit his lip, face flushing with self-hate. "I don't know, don't worry about it." "Of course I'm going to worry about it!" "Stop." She paused, his sudden anger caught her off guard. He had never felt this way before. Weak, out of control of his own body. It hurt, everywhere; the emotions began to run wild. "This shouldn't be happening, it's not even that far along." "You need to go to the doctor, please Luke." He could only stare down at the sheets. The amount of compassion she still had for him, was astonishing. He wanted to give in, badly. He wanted everything to return to normal, and be cured, and pretend it could all just go away. But what exactly needed curing? His brain. The disease, attacked it, slowly but surely making it decay, driving him insane. To cure it, they would need to remove all decayed tissue, which was a risk. But she knew, and she wanted him to stay alive so badly that she came back. After everything he put her through, she was still there. He broke down and cried. With his eyes shut tight, he felt her soft arms wrap around him, soothing his pains that originated from nowhere. |
