It turns out today is the day that we see off the Admiral. Admiral Gui is taking an indefinite leave from the base, as it turns out.
I know, it's all sudden. I couldn't think of a good way to break it to you, but it's heart-wrenching news. How will we protect ourselves: From the gossip I hear, Tachi won't be here for much longer, either. Does this mean there'll be somebody else stepping in to take their place? Maybe we'll have to fend for ourselevs? The future sure is scary.
I don't want to think about this. I mean, we've done so much together. Ever since I joined the fleet in the early eays, a few weeks after the base was constructed, I've seen this town grow and flourish under the guise of the Admiral. Now, he's leaving. Are we entering into a new era?
It's all speculation, but we aren't completely sure why the Admiral is leaving. He claims that he is taking a multiple-month break to focus on his studies. He is, after all, the famous part-time admiral. The one and only, haha.
But others have speculated otherwise. Has he found more fulfilling work elsewhere? Is he returning to a secret family of his? There's just so much in the air.
Y'know, it's rare for me to just write continuously like this for an entry, but I think a monumental occasion like this warrants it. Because there's nothing as big as entering a position as leaving it. This is no exception.
The final goodbye for him to leave past the mountains that surround this base is in a two hours. We have everything set up, and the hot summer sun is baking the entire venu. I've brought the best crew that I could muster for this occasion, and everyone is in their top form. Even officials from other bases and lesser notable people have come to pay us a visit. Even all operating shipgirls are in top-tier form since the Admiralty requested that there be a ceremonial naval review as part of the farewell ceremony. Beats me why they would do it, but I've heard that Admiral Gui wil at least shake hands with every active-duty shipgirl before bidding everyone farewell.
I... am really at a loss for words. What can we do now?
I'm scribbling this down as breaking news: Shigure has hugged the Admiral! After shaking hands during the naval review, she broke rank and hugged the Admiral. He returned it, surprisingly, and people say his eyes were a little teary after they let go. That's actually the first public sign of affection from the Admiral, outside of the usual friendly relations he tries to have towards everybody.
What a bombshell to drop right before leaving.
His procession is snaking its way around the mountain now, right as the sun is halfway below the horizon. The blood red sky, hopefully, will only be red from the rays of the evening sun.
