Today is the Winter Solstice of the Year of the Dragon, or as I have been referring to this year, the “Year of the Draconid”.
This certainly has been quite the year for me. I was demoted in the Spring, reinstated in the Summer, promoted to Overlord in the Autumn, and now here we are at Winter...
The last Winter Solstice to occur during the Year of the Dragon was December 21st 2012, which (for those familiar with crazy conspiracy theories and the like) was a day that many had believed that the world was going to end, based on something to do with the end of the Mayan calendar or something. It is worth noting that there was a winter storm that had occurred around then that was named “Winter Storm Draco“, which seemed like just another bizarre coincidence on top of several other bizarre coincidences around that time.
(Including the 2 latest Pokémon games at the time--Black Version 2 and White Version 2--featuring a Dragon/Ice-type as their mascot.)
Just as this year has been an eventful year for me, so too was 2012. Not only was it the year I turned 18 (which unfortunately meant less for me than it does for most), but on October 24th 2012, my sister decided to try to run away from home (at the age of 15), leading to chain of events that resulted in many of the RL problems that me and my dad are still struggling with to this day.
It was my sister trying to run away from home that led to my dad finally caving in and getting her a rabbit on May 1st the following year, and all of the rabbits who are here now are the descendants of that very first rabbit.
Another bizarre coincidence is that after talking about doing so for many years, my sister finally decided to leave home earlier this year, this time in June. She has since come back and visited a few times now to take some of her rabbits back with her, but she's basically gone now.
As for where I was on this day--the day the world was supposed to end--12 years ago, it was actually in a hotel room. Dad had decided that we should all hide out in a hotel to avoid the CPS people (or whoever they were) who were trying to contact us following my sister's failed attempt at running away from home, after he read a bunch of horror stories about them taking people's children away online. He spent thousands upon thousands of dollars doing that (which turned out to be a huge problem later), but that was actually the last time we got to sleep in a bed, and we also got to learn about some cool new TV shows by watching cable there.
Anyway, I'm not entirely sure why I decided to write this (just to vent I suppose), but Winter has always been my favorite season, and I obviously love Dragons as well, so IG the “Draco Solstice” is a pretty special day to me, and since there won't be another for 12 years, IG I just wanted to make this one special, too. (I'm certainly happier about this one than the one 12 years ago, aside from me wishing that Mom was here too.)
