In the year 20XX…

“The test was a success, ma’am!”A tall, lanky man in a lab coat dashed into the highest room in the building, bursting through the door. “It’s… it’s a miracle!” He wore an ear to ear grin at the achievement.

The sophisticated-looking woman turned around in her chair, away from the New York City skyline.

“And, the portal?” She asked.

“Perfectly stable.” The man stumbled with his words. “It’s consuming a LOT of power, though…” He rubbed the back of his head.

“With that machine, it’ll self sustain.” The woman took a sip of wine from a fancy looking glass. “Besides, I’ve got connections with the energy companies.”

“Ma’am, Shadow activity is at an all time high. We need to keep it under control soon, before we can’t anymore.” The man stated, matter-of-factly.

The woman stood up, turning around to look at the skyline. The building was taller than the clouds in the sky.

“My life’s work has led up to this…” She twirled her wine glass. “From 2DSDraw, to discovering the Distortion… now I can bend it to my will. Reality can be whatever I want.”

She chuckled, and turned back around to her subordinate.

“Ready the Distortion Unit for augmentation.” She ordered.

“Yes, SailBreak.” The man rushed out the door, it swinging closed behind him automatically.

SailBreak sat back down. She finished her glass of wine before tapping at her desk. A screen showing a younger woman, being put under for surgery appeared in a hologram.

“Good to see you again, Erin.” SailBreak said to herself. “Sorry to keep you waiting.”

A large needle was slowly inserted into Erin’s brain, as SailBreak giddily giggled to herself, watching the procedure.
