I've been here for a short while, but it still seems that the word on everyone's lips happens to be "admin." Discussions--in chatrooms, on profiles, in groups, on bulletin boards, in blogs--often end up as arguments over admins. Quite frankly, it's about time this cacophany turned into the dull roar that it should be.
Of course it's a popular topic. After all, admins, or administrators, are the inner-circle elite and the center of attention--not to mention their extensive website powers. But does this deserve such frenzy?
Regular users:
- What I hear most often is how people wish to become admins. Often they do so not knowing that the admin life is hardly what it's thought to be. In general, it means hard work, lack of bias, boldness, and a sense of justice--which most users just aren't cut out for.
- One can't ignore the frequent complaints about admins. Some are merited and some not, but you have to accept admins as people: they make mistakes. So don't be so quick to judge them.
- Obey the admins. It's that simple.
Admins:
- You guys are admins; act the part. Like I said before, you're not perfect, BUT you should try to be as perfect as possible. By striving, you command respect. Without that, you're a mere shadow of an admin.
- Also, be straightforward rather than rude. Fine line, yes, but one worth seeking out.
- Don't flaunt your status. That just diminishes the idea of an admin as well as public accord.
- Overlords: Please accept some criticism. Many new admins have been recently appointed. I just request that your selection process be, well, more selective. Quality over quantity should be paramount.
So, in short, there are issues that both admins and regular users need to work on. This blog may never truly affect general activity on SDK, but it's something for you to contemplate. This problem is already growing, and as the numbers of admins and users increase, non-action will further destroy the soul of this website from the inside out.
