Hey guys Raptor here on YET ANOTHER educational blog. I have quite a bit of these don't I?... Maybe I should act more dumb and make stupid blogs about poems and my lovey dovey feelings... >_> No offence.

Anyway, on with the blog. I was watching National Geographic the other night and they were airing a couple shows about the histories of "scary" things. It was Halloween night so this is understandable. Anyway, I was surprised to find out that the vampires we know now actually never started out this way. The whole Teenage vampire sucking blood from the necks of their pray thing, is not the real vampire. Infact, this ides of vampire didn't start until about the 1800s and 1900s. It came primarily due to the creation and release of Dracula. Dracula is what inspired this whole love fest and crap in vampires. Interesting huh?

But now you might be thinking... "Durrr, I wondr how the reel vamps wur.. Durrr..." I'd be happy to fill that void in your head. (Ignore my insults)

The real vampires weren't even called vampires. They were actually called Revenants. Revenants didn't start showing up until about the time of the Black Death. If you know your history you'll know what I mean by this. The Black Death was a horrible plague that killed over half of the worlds population. It started in what some people believe to be Venice. During this dark time in history a lot of people were dying for reasons they didn't know. So a lot of suspicions and superstitions erupted. One of the superstitions was a dead corpse of bones coming to life and consuming people. As in "eating flesh." What were they called? Yah.. You got it. Revenants. So what are Revenants? Revenants are dead dry corpses of bones reassembling and then chasing people to fill their needs for human flesh.

Oh mah gosh! I have scarred your minds! Want to know how people of the Black Death protected themselves to assure no Revenants? You do!? Ok! After someone died the corpse would be carried out far inland. It would be dumped into a grave hole and then a stone brick would be shoved into the mouth. I am not sure why, but at the time this was thought to keep people from returning from the dead as Revenants and seeking their flesh.

Well, now you know the real history behind Vampires. Goodnight, don't let the... Revenants bite...
