It's a very difficult process for overlords to keep up with their inboxes. (I currently have around 800 unread messages.) For this reason, please follow these guidelines to help us not be inundated and to help you not feel ignored:
Admin requests - NO These have just gotten annoying. It used to be very apparent from the subjectline that it was a admin request, but members have been making up fake titles, just to get overlords to place priority on reading the message. People who do this have absolutely no chance of ever becoming admins. It's effectively spam, and I can't stand spam on my regular mail (about 900 per day), so I'd like to at least avoid it here. For anyone who has ever been to a chatroom, the bulletin boards, the overlord blogs, or the helpdesk, you know that admin requests are ignored. We promote admins as needed.
Help Requests - SOMETIMES If you are having trouble with another member, please try to deal with the situation. There are mechanisms on this website to block or ignore members. If those don't work, or the trouble does not stop, then email an overlord. Please avoid emergency messages. We only check messages a few times each day, so the emergency may have resolved itself by the time you get a response. Try to find another admin in a chatroom to help. Some admins do have our email addresses or phone numbers if something absolutely needs to be resolved (yet situations like that are rare). Finally, use the Help Desk. It's there to allow other admins to see. Generally, situations involving updates to the website take longer to resolve than quick solutions. Keep that in mind.
Random Hellos - SOMETIMES Sure, it's nice to receive random greetings from someone who would just like to talk, but it's difficult to reply, and it does slow down getting to other messages. These are appreciated, though.
Complaints About Members - RARELY As with the help requests, please only message overlords with these if absolutely necessary.
Website Feature Requests - JUST ME These are best left to the Help Desk; although, I don't mind them.
Name Change Requests - RARELY I am the only one who can grant name changes since it involves manually logging into the database. Please only come to me about a name change if it involves a misspelling, removal of trailing numbers, or unknown foreign vulgarity within the username. If you don't like your name, then why did you choose it in the beginning?
Group Invitations - NO Overlords can reach any group without joining, so join requests are not needed.
Who Are You? - NO Come on! If you sign up for a website and automatically have a few friends, who could they be? I thought it was obvious that designers and admins are default friends. Am I wrong?
Tutorials on Coding - SOMETIMES I don't mind helping with quick coding questions for HTML, JavaScript, PHP, etc., but please keep these to just quick questions, not pastes of entire files, asking "What's wrong?".
Asking to Read an Older Message - NO This just adds more unnecessary mail. You can tell if someone has read a message by looking for the bold being gone from its subjectline in your outbox.
Asking to Delete Your Account - NO If you really want to delete your account, just do it in your profile.
Website Requests - NO or $ Please do not ask me to build a website for you or give you code for this website. I have spent a great deal of time (1000s of hours) coding this website and would like to keep my content proprietary so that the Internet doesn't get flooded with clone websites that have no benefits over each other. For those who have offered me $4-$100 or Nintendo Points cards to make an entire website, let me point out that freelance professional Web developing runs anywhere from $35/hr to $75/hr, depending on what is involved and which tools must be purchased. If you work at a Web development company, like I do, you get paid a little less than the bottom range but get paid vacation, health insurance, and other benefits. (Remember that this website is just a hobby.) For that reason, it's worth learning to code for yourself for a bright future. If you would like me to build a website for you after knowing those rates, please do message me.
I am glad i haven't did any of these things stated here, well...at least some of them =S
I feel bad sometimes i random mailed HB.
But this blog let everything very clear.
The problem is, i am pretty sure almost eveyone who random mail or do follow the examples listed on this blog are not going to read this, it would be better if you send this as an alert Hull, because EVERYONE will see it,
