As many people know, in late September, Tyler Clementi, a closeted gay student attending Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ committed suicide by jumping off the George Washington Bridge after some fellow students posted private videos of him & a partner on a date, outing him as being gay.
Well, this is an update. It was recently released that Tyler Clementi's parent's intend to sue Rutgers University. Tyler's parent's filed the notice on Friday, stating that the university failed to protect their son's rights. After Tyler's death, the students involved, Dharun Ravi & Molly Wei were charged with invasion of privacy. They withdrew from the school.
I have listed a link to the FULL story on what his parent's are planning & the full story on Tyler himself, just in case you didn't know about it, or forgot about it.
They are just suing the school because their attorney knows it has more money than the other students. They need to go after the kids. I'm surprised criminal charges were not brought against the kids. Homophobia and heterophobia are way too rampant in this country. People need to respect those around them.
I know the guy commited suicide, and I don't mean to offend anyone, but he commited suicide for someone calling him gay when he, well, IS gay? Isn't that sort of a regular occurence? If everyone died when they got called gay, kids would go extinct. And if gays died when being called gay... well.... GUH.
From what the Article (the 'Tyler Clementi linked article) says, he went to the RA about it, & the RA did nothing, but again, in that situation, look at the individual, not the school.
I don't agree with the parent's actions. The school didn't do it. They should be looking at the 2 idividuals that caused the suicide, not wasting their time on the school. The school had no part in it at all.
