Alright, so guess what: There's this thing called Home Schooling, and it's nowhere close to being called a "new practice".
The driving force in the making of this blog is aggravation from years of being asked the same [& somewhat stupid/ignorant] questions by friends, strangers, & family too. I'm just listing the often-asked questions that people ask me about Home Schooling.
1.The Lonely Hermit This is by far the most annoying. In this case, people usually are under the impression of," Oh, the poor child is all alone, and has no social life". Now, this is generally follwed by the question," But, don't you wish you were in school? You could see your friends everyday!". Or, in my case, since I was traditionally schooled until 2nd Grade, "Don't you miss your friends?".
1st, I would like to point out that there are plenty of Home Schoolers in most Cities/Towns, and that there are also Home Schooling Organizations, ie: West-Side Unschoolers Group.[A Chicago-Suburban Group.] We have plenty of people to meet, and make friends with. Also, If you were previously traditionally schooled, you can still call up friends, & hang out w/ them on the weekends.
2nd, when you're in school, that's usually time for "learning", not "socializing". You're really not given a chance [other than lunch, and{if in 1st Grade/below,} Recess] to "socalize".
2.The Shy-Wuss In this case, we're thought of as "weak, little things" that aren't capable of the "real world". This is not true. I can tell you right now, we're not all small, under-developed nerds hiding in our mother's basement @ the age of 24.
3.The Special One.On the other side of the spectrum, this accusations sibling is "The Shy-Wuss".
This is basically the "understanding" by our Old-Ways friend, that the child was never sent to/brought out of school for Mental/Physical Reasons. [look for part 2. Out of room.]
