I awoke the next morning, Wednesday. It was freezing, but I put on the same thing I had worn the day before: a white, teddybear T-shirt, & brown shorts. both stained & worn, stretched-out, white socks, & too small, faded, black & white, sneackers. I grabbed some stale crackers for breakfast. Expired last year, but it's all we had. Christy & Chris came running out of their room, where they shared a mattress (I slept on the couch, I didn't have a room). I handed them each a couple crackers & told them to get dressed & wash up. Christy, usually so energetic, was puttering around, so I walked over to her. She hadn't eaten her crackers, so I inquired about what was wrong. She looked at me & just threw up....all over & began crying. I sighed, went & got a dirty towel, cleaned it up, while thinking, 'great, Christy's sick, we're broke, now what?' I went in, & woke my mom up & told her Christy was sick. She arose, & went up to Christy, where she felt her forehead, & went next door to call the twins Dr. She came back 10 minutes later telling me that Dr. Carmen would see Christy later today at 5 PM, but that Miss Symone wouldn't take Christy & Chris because Christy was sick. Miss Symone usually watched the twins so I could go to school, but it was few & far in between, as she usually had an excuse to return them early, or not watch them all together. I looked at my mom willing her to say 'so I called my bos...etc.', instead I heard what I ALWAYS heard: 'So, I called your principal. Evaleigh, I'm sorry hon, but you're going to have to stay with the twins, so I can go to work.' I started to argue, but stopped. We needed the money, & me going to school did not bring a paycheck, my mom going to work did, end of story. So, That was it, my fate for the day was sealed. Another day missed. This was exactly why I was in 9th grade when I just turned 16 on halloween, because we needed money, & going to school couldn't provide us that money that we needed. It would never end.
