The idea for the Titanic was started at a dinner party in 1907, summer. Lord Pierre (chairman of Harland & Wolff shipbuilders) and J Bruce Ismay, (director of the White Star Line) They planned to build the 3 largest ships ever, to be called the Olympic, Titanic and Gigantic (later changed to Britannic)
-The Titanic was 882 1/2 feet long and 92 1/2 feet wide. It was taller than an 11 story building. It weighed over 53000 tons.
-The top speed of the Titanic was about 24 knots but not once did it reach tat speed.
-14 years before the Titanic sailed, a man named Morgan Robertson wrote a book called Futility, about a ship called the Titan which sank on its maiden voyage because it hit an iceberg and tere wasn't enough lifeboats for everyone.
-It cost $7.5 million to build it (back then), bout 140m$ today
-Someone was indeed trapped under the hull before the Titanic launched. A large post had collapsed on James Dobbin's leg. His fellow workers found him and dragged him out,but he died the next day.
-When the Titanic and Olympic were launched they made a record (in the day) of being the largest manmade objects ever moved.
-The fourth funnel was a fake. Lord Pirrie thought it would make the ship look grander.
-There was around 2000 portholes.
-There was 1 new Renault on board in cargo.
-People were not allowed to tour the ship.
