I have noticed throughout the new year, that the term "Gay" is being thrown around as an insult way too often. This needs to stop. I see way too many bans for something that shouldn't happen in the first place. A lot of young members on this site are still finding themselves. Still learning about their sexuality and about who they want to become.
I found this quote on a website, put in place to argue the very point I am making here.
"It doesn't matter what the context or intention of the person using the word. The fact is when the word was initially being used in a derogatory manner it stemmed from homophobic position. If you're a gay teenager growing up scared of the stigma you will face, hearing that word used frequently in a negative context can only add to your feeling of isolation. What's the harm in looking out for other people's feelings (no matter how trivial they might seem to you) and choosing a different word?"
It doesn't matter if you are straight, gay, bisexual, bi curious... whatever.. Gay is never to be used in a negative manner. There are millions of people in this world fighting for equal rights for us. Yes, I said US. I am a bisexual female and damn proud of it. Be proud of who you are, kids. If you know you're gay.. stand up for it. Don't let anyone use your sexuality against you or tell you that you're confused. People who use the term to put us down only think we are weak. And we can't fight back against it. Stand up. Be proud. Be strong.
And to those of you who say "That's so gay", it must kill you to know that Gays are serving in our military. How does it feel knowing that a gay person, you work so hard to humiliate and degrade is risking their life to protect the very freedom and country you love? The next time you insult something by saying "That's so gay" remember that a gay person is fighting a war you are too damn cowardly to fight yourself. Who is the weaker one now?
note: if anyone sez its ok to exclude gays bcus its not natural ITS NOT God, at least the christian one, loves you no matter what. i am a nonbeliever but holding on to this simple truth, that someone DOES care has saved me countless times. ifyou hear people arguing this just say "god loves me this i know because the bible tells me so"
did you watch that weird commercial where that girl tells the teenager to not say "thats gay"? i thought,"thats new" and stopped saying thats gay after that.
Another one!? Btw, the JUST let gays into the military. Most people also don't "Find their sexuality" their usually straight, I have yet to see a kindergartener saying "Am I gay or straight?" This is kinda like getting abnormal how much you want to act like it's the best thing ever to be gay.
Can this please be the last of these blogs? It seems like every blog lately has been about some form of sexuality. There are kids on this website who should best discuss such matters with their parents. Sure, there are homophobes and heterophobes, but all these blogs are just beating a dead horse or preaching to a choir or some kind of other cliche that's on the tip of my tongue.
Victor... to be honest I have no idea who Pokemaster is nor about his blog. I wrote this blog because earlier tonight I was watching a movie and one of the characters said "that's so gay". It gave me the inspiration to write this.
nice presentation, Pokemaster's blog was very humble and easy for kid's to understand, true this one is presented in a better way, But still Pokemaster's blog is the one who attracted the larger discussion
I made a lot of comments abiut the subject on Poke's blog....and i'm running out of im to go to school, i will visit the site laterz.
Excellent, Crym.
I have many friends, that are adults, and are gay or bisexaul, and I have the best time with them.
Treat them with respect, and they will respect you back.
And they spoil me. xD
