So I have been seeing a lot of bans for people posting songs as blogs that contain profanity. I admit I have banned a few of you. While profanity is against the rules on this site, posting songs is not forbidden.
It is inevitable that majority of the songs nowadays contain profane language. There is no way around it. From Christina Aguilera to Eminem... there is cursing. Now... no one is saying you can't share your favorite songs, but do it in a responsible way, because of the children who participate on this site and the parents who might want to keep these words from their kids.
So, I am going to show you how to post a song containing profanity, the proper way. Here is an example. A snippet from Eminem's "Not Afraid".
"You can try and read my lyrics off of this paper before I lay 'em
But you won't take the sting out these words before I say 'em
Cause ain't no way I'm a let you stop me from causin' mayhem
When I say I'm a do somethin' I do it, I don't give a damn
What you think, I'm doin' this for me, so [censored] the world
Feed it beans, it's gassed up, if it thinks it's stoppin' me
I'm a be what I set out to be, without a doubt undoubtedly
And all those who look down on me I'm tearin' down your balcony
No if ands or buts, don't try to ask him why or how can he
From "Infinite" down to the last "Relapse" album
He's still [censored], whether he's on salary paid hourly
Until he bows out or he [censored] his bowels out of him
Whichever comes first, for better or worse He's married to the game, like a [censored] you for Christmas
His gift is a curse, forget the Earth, he's got the urge
To pull his [censored] from the dirt, and [censored] the whole universe."
You see what I did? I replaced every explicit word with a [censored]. This won't count as a bypass, because you are simply removing the profanity from the song. It is EXACTLY the same idea as if you heard the edited version on the radio. But instead of putting "****" to cover the profanity, remove the word entirely. This makes the song child friendly... and doesn't get anyone in trouble.
I hope I help cut down on some of the blog song bans. Thanks for reading.
DC I never said anything about the blogs being FEATURED. I have banned a few people recently who post songs in their blogs and leave in the profanity. I am not going to name who but they know who they are. I asked them to delete the blogs or delete the curse words. The song was ACTUALLY Eminem's song "Not Afraid". In fact before I was made admin on my previous name, my blogs consisted of about 3/4 songs, I had like 20 blogs and 16 were songs. I wrote my favorite songs in my blogs. Maybe some of you remember that?
Seeing as how this blog was a complete backfire now, because I am understanding that yea the asterisks set in place do identify a curse word as well as a [censored] does, how about we move forward with a new solution?
Hull, from now on shouldn't all blogmins/profilemins report blogs containing song lyrics? Regardless of if they contain profanity. Seeing as how it is a form of plagiarism, and the work being posted is NOT the work of the author? And ChatMods should be able to ban for that as well. If we come across a profile, or blog with copyrighted material on it, it should get a ban until said material is removed.
I never plaguirize, I used to when I was a noob, I'm even working on a rap right now thats 5 pages per verse (Notebook pages) without one curse, totally my work, and you would deny that?
Or you could just not post songs, considering it's not news wrothy, and it's easy/ "Ohh imma copypasta song thaz kool 4 nws ns points, lololroflcopter"
Just don't accept songs all together, we apparently accept originality yet when one person posts an entire blog (entirely not their work) and reference it that goes through. I'd just deny and move on.
Why are people posting someone else's songs as a blog, anyways? That plagiarism, theft, copyright infringement, or whatever you want to call it. Just citing the author at the bottom doesn't make that any different. If anyone sees my blog about copyright from a few months ago, you will see that lawyers successfully bring lawsuits against people who post such things. Including a small snippet for purposes of review or education are different, but if your blog is just someone else's work, then it's not really your blog, is it? Besides, the word "blog" is a portmanteau of "Web log", meaning it is an original recollection of your thoughts placed on a website. I always reject blogs by members that aren't original for this reason, regardless of whether or not there is profanity.
I also agree with Chuck. I mean, where's the line that you draw between stars and letters? You're just replacing one string with another, it just looks slightly different.
If the song has vulgar language in it, why not just listen to it at your house instead of posting lyrics to it which people could just look up themselves?
I actually agree with Chuck as well. There was a Help Desk question asking the same thing, and I had said pretty much exactly what Chuck said.
Saying [censored] is the same thing as *****, the only difference is you can read the word censored and you cant read asterisks.
I do not have anything against lyrics with vulgar language and I listen to as much of it as anyone else, but since this is a family site, with children under the age of 10 that does visit here, I still think that this is a bit pushing it.
And while I agree that most of the kids have heard worse, the site as a whole doesnt need to be the one that provides that even more.
I agree with Commander. Adding to this, what if some of the smaller children like the way the censored lyrics look, so decide to look it up on Youtube to listen to it? Just a thought.
This doesn't make any sense... Eventually [censored] will become counted as profanity. Just like the four astirisks did.
And I honestly think that dirty songs shouldn't be posted on here anyways. Censored or not.
It's not that I have anything against dirty songs. It's just that Danny doesn't need to be the one held responsible for kids learning these things.
[Censored] and **** serve as the same exact purpose for removing the word. They are just different methods.
I don't mean to sound like I'm flaming, but I think that any song that contains profanity just needs to be not posted on here. Some of you don't realize that these things, even if they are censored, can really get Danny in trouble.
You can thank political correctness for that -.-
I don't mean to flame... Or to sound like I disagree, but I'm just speaking my opinion.
