Ahhh, the N64. We all love it, if you don't you're lying. And just by coincidence we get one of the best FPS ever! That's right Goldeneye 007 on N64. We all know it was a movie, but if you say "Remember Goldeneye?" to someone, chances are the conversation will change topics to video games. We all have fond memories of this game, but less fond ones as well. We love the graphics, gameplay, and stealth element to this game. The control? Strange. Strange indeed. It even auto-aims. But it remains challenging somehow. If ONLY the aiming were better, I would easily give this game my personal award for THE BEST FPS EVER. But no matter how bad the aiming the rest remains spot-on. Nice graphics, enemies react to where you shoot them, and the stealth almost feels Metal Gear Solid-worthy. Multiplayer was fantastic too, except when you're facing a jerk who chooses that bloke who's too short to shoot.
I would reccomend this for anyone with an N64 [chances are you already have it] but don't expect it on Wii VC anytime soon. You see, Activision owns the rights to James Bond games, while Rare developed the game itself. Now that Rare works for Microsoft, Nintendo must get Microsofts permission, and vice-versa. Luckily for us, an N64 emulator will work on most any computer, so get it that way. Sadly that rules out multiplayer unless you have PC-N64 controllers [$19.99 each]. Oh well.
Even today, this game remains one of my favourites. All you commenters, tell me about your hapiness with this game.
For the record, Shigeru Miyamoto helped develop Goldeneye behind the scenes, and Ocarina of Time was originally supposed to be a First Person game, but they changed that when Young Link was created, because they then wanted to show Link's different bodies
All this leads me to believe that Zelda Wii will be in First Person or a very very close 3rd person, because motion + works better in that perspective, and lets face it, the Wiimote was made for First Person, I bet Shigeru/Anouma will grasp this opportunity and continue with their First Person Zelda this Gen...
I would love this because I feel the game would be much more immersive and scary in First Person
We will see E3 2010, its confirmed Zelda will be appearing, and they are even pushing for a playable Demo this E3...
speaking of N64 my family and i went to a hotel when we got to our room there was a N64 controler pluged into the back of the tv i think it was suposte to be a remote
That game is awesome! Playing it brings back memories. It seems like the majority of games based off of movies are less than steller, but this is an exception. Not only that, but the graphics were beyond its time!
I remember the....second level, I think....where you're climbing through an air vent and you can shoot the hat off of the soldier in the toilet. Those were the days.....Anyone remember Perfect Dark by Rare?
Releasing the game has nothing to do with Microsoft. Although RareWare developed the game, Nintendo produced it and owns the rights to the game itself. Since the James Bond license has been transfered to Activision since then, Nintendo must work a deal with both Activision and Eon Productions. Microsoft has to go one step further to put the game on the 360 in that they need to work a deal with Nintendo, as well.
Still, it's a good blog, and I am approving it for the homepage.
I would encourage readers to find an old copy of the game at a garage sale or on eBay, rather than going with emulation. Not only is the emulation a form of piracy, but the game experience is so much better on a big screen in the living room with a bunch of friends.
