Just like several of the other sins, gluttony can be considered a sin based on your religion. Alot of people seem to greatly confuse gluttony with greed. Which isn`t really a bad prediction seeing as how(in a way) they are similar. They both have in common the fact that they both mean to take a great amount of something to the point of waste. But what makes gluttony different is that it takes more of a deeper focus on things like food and drink and is associated with verbs like: consume, indulge, ect. While greed focuses more on material things and qualities such as wealth and power. Gluttony is the excessive desire to consume food, drink, ect. to the point of waste. In Christianity it is considered a sin because in god`s eye gluttony was taking from the poor and causing starvation. But in some other religions gluttony can actually be a form of pride or show that you are wealthy. Some religions feel that over-indulgence is shows high status. The fact that gluttony is expressed as a deadly sin in some religions and not very important in others leaves me split about if gluttony is good or bad. We all have to eat to live but noone needs to eat to much to where others starve.PEACE.
Lol...I dont read Mango or Manga[whatever its called] i was just writing a blog and also i dont steal anthing from anyone. those words came from my mind i dont steal ideas. you should really learn to ask about someone b4 you pass judgement and make conclusions
You are correct in that gluttony becomes the Deadly Sin when one takes from another, leading to starvation in one and over-indulgence in the other. Just having a big appetite or feasting at meals is no where near sinful. Yet, let's take Haiti or New Orleans as examples of where gluttony becomes considered a Deadly Sin...
With New Orleans, Hurricane Katrina hit, leading to the flooding of much of the city. People were without homes, food, and clean water. Many had no way to leave the city because Mayor Ray Nagin never got around to contacting emergency crews to bus people to safezones. Instead, the buses sat flooded in the city. He also didn't contact the National Guard (state level) or FEMA (national level) to call for relief efforts until AFTER the hurricane was well over. They could not act without his go-ahead due to separation of powers in the US Constitution. (For those who have never lived near a coastline, you have at least 2 days to prepare for a hurricane because they move no faster than city traffic between locations.) So, during all of this time of mass-suffering, what was Nagin doing? He was wining and dining in a 5-star hotel.
The Haitian earthquake was recent enough that is still seared into our minds. We've seen images of the suffering, the starvation. The death toll was and still is astronomical - possibly as high as 300,000. Other countries and non-governmental bodies sent aid in the form of medical care, food, water, temporary shelter. Where were the officials of Haiti's government? They were high above the impoverished cities in the mountains, in their mansions, with plenty of all the necessities. So the socialists in their government believe in forcing everyone to be equal until a disaster comes. Then, they suddenly become all laissez faire and have nothing to do with the people.
