Paco was the hero of Imaginary Land. He was the top dog in his town. He protected Imaginary Land, kept it safe. He countlessly saved his fiancee from Tyrone, the leader of the rival gang.
One day he noticed he was all out of rice milk. What was he to do? Rice milk wasn't any ordinary milk, it was the richest in nutrients because it was from a Rice Paddy cow. Rice Paddy cows were the best of the best cows, they produced the most delicious milk in all the land of Imaginary Land. He couldn't just go buy some from the store, it wouldn't be fresh! He knew if he broke the record at the shooting range he could win a cow. That means he would have all the rice milk he could drink. There were a few problems to his plan, he had no money and he didn't have a bow and arrow. He heard there was a bow and arrow hidden in the Blue Monkey Forest. So off he went starting his journey to get rice milk.
Paco needed a few things before he left. He grabbed his sword, the Trumpet of Macally, his shield, and an empty bottle for the rice milk.
“I think that’s everything, let’s go Yesenia,” Link said.
When they got outside Yesenia, Paco's fairy, asked “Where’s Nadia? Play her song so she will come here Paco.”
Paco got out the trumpet and began to play Nadia’s Song. Then, from the horizon, Nadia appeared. When she got to Paco and Yesenia Paco hopped on.
“Are you hungry?” Paco asked as he gave her a carrot to eat. “Ok let’s get to the forest!” Paco exclaimed as Nadia took off running across the open grassland.
“I think we’re getting close to the forest Paco,” said Yesenia from Paco’s pocket.
They neared the entrance to the Blue Monkey Forest.
“Slow down Nadia,” Paco said.
They entered the forest to find many different ways you could go.
“Paco,” Yesenia began to say, “I think these are the Woods of Lost Travelers. There’s only one way through but if you make one wrong turn we will be brought right back here! Which way do we-“
“Shhhhhhhh,” Paco interrupted, “do you hear that?”
“Hear what?”
“Listen, I hear a noise,” Paco said, “I think we should follow it.”
So they followed the noise, with every turn it got louder and louder until “Paco!” shouted Yesenia, “Look there’s a chest over there! Maybe it’s the bow and arrow!” Paco started to walk towards the chest. A noise in the bushes, Paco drew his sword and prepared to defend himself. Out jumped a dark figure attacking Paco. He blocked the attack and took a few steps back. He couldn’t believe his eyes, it was Evil Paco!
There they stood, prepared for battle. Evil Paco had been Paco's enemy for as long as he could remember. He was an exact copy of Paco, except he was evil! Evil Paco made the first move. He charged, sword above his head. Paco prepared to roll out of the way. Swing, roll, Paco quickly swung back but missed. Evil Paco went in for a horizontal swing, but Paco threw his boomerang and hit him before Evil Paco swung. He fell to the ground, Paco went in to take advantage of the opening. He swung but Evil Paco saw him coming and protected himself with his shield. Paco quickly went for another swing, and another. Swing after swing he kept swinging but Evil Paco kept blocking. Paco became winded and Evil Paco saw his opening, he swung and hit Paco in the ribs. Paco started to wobble, he could barely stand. Evil Paco came charging, raised his sword. Just before he got to Paco Yesenina started to fly all around Evil Paco's head, he couldn't concentrate. Since Evil Paco was distracted Paco swiftly went for the chest. He opened it, got the bow and arrow and prepared to fire. He aimed, pulled back the arrow and fired. Evil Paco was hit right in the leg, he knew he couldn't win now so he placed a bomb to keep Paco away and disappeared back into the woods, he got away again but it didn't matter because Paco finally got the bow and arrow. Next was to get some money, he started heading back to Nadia.
Next Paco needed to get at least 50 dollars. The game cost 50 dollar each. He went through the open grassland looking for tall grass because he knew money was sometimes hidden in the tall grass. He looked and looked until he saw a big batch of tall grass. He ran over and started to chop it down money falling everywhere. He started to pick them up when he heard a skeletor sneaking up from behind. He hadn't realized it had already become night, time to fight until sunrise. They began to crawl out of the ground, not from one spot but from everywhere! From the right, he sliced and the skeletor quickly became a pile of bones. The back, slash, pile of bones. He battled, they stood no chance against Paco when he wielded the sword he made himself. Then a few minutes before sunrise a big skeletor appeared from beneath the Earth. Paco swung and hit him but he was more difficult than the little skeletors. The big skeletor hammered down with his sword, Paco rolled to the side and threw his boomerang. It flew through the air, nailed the big skeletor in the head and dealt the final blow. The big skeletor became a big pile of bones and dropped 200 dollars. That was more than enough so Paco started to head into town, today he was going to win his cow and finally get his rice milk.
"Paco," said Yesenia, "don't you think you should practice shooting before you try to win the cow?"
"You mean like target practice?" he asked.
"Yes that's exactly what I mean," Yesenia began to explain, "think about it, the top prize is a rice paddy cow. If you were giving away a cow would you make it easy?"
"I think I know what you mean," Paco responded. "What could we use as target practice though?"
"I don't know."
Yesenia and Paco both sat there thinking of what they could use.
"I got it!" Yesenia exclaimed, "Flying Monkeys!" "That's genius Yesenia! They move around to make perfect targets!" "And even if the targets don't move you'll be ready!" Paco and Yesenia looked around for flying monkeys. Flying monkeys were monkeys that hovered around carrying bananas.
"There," whispered Paco. Ahead in the distance there was a flying monkey. Paco crouched down and quietly got closer and closer to his target. They stopped about 75 yards from the flying monkey. Paco readied the bow and arrow. He pulled the arrow back, and before he had a chance to fire, snap! Paco stepped on a stick and the flying monkey took off. "Damnit!" Paco started to chase the flying monkey. "He's not going to slow down Paco," yelled Yesenia trying to keep up "you need to shoot it while running!"
Paco raised his bow and arrow again. He pulled back the arrow once again, fire! The arrow cut through the air like a knife cutting butter. It unsucessfully hit the ground.
"Try aiming ahead of the flying monkey Paco!"
"I can do this," Paco thought to himself.
He raised his bow and arrow yet another time. He pulled back the arrow for what he hoped would be that final time until he went to the shooting gallery. Fire! The arrow soared through the air. Direct hit!
"You did it!" Yesenia exclaimed.
"I think I'm ready for the shooting gallery now"
"I think so too"
"Is Nadia close by?" Paco asked.
"I don't think so," Paco replied, "play Nadia's Song." Paco got out the Trumpet of Macally and began to play. Nadia began to appear from the horizon.
"Come here Nadia," Paco shouted, "want some carrots?" Paco hopped up and gave Nadia a couple carrots.
"Let's go to town," Paco said. At that command Nadia took off toward town, Paco was finally going to the shooting gallery. They were nearing the enterance to the town but they had to hurry because the drawbridge closed when the sun went down to keep the skeletors out.
"We have to hurry Nadia," Paco said, "the sun is almost set."
They could see the drawbridge in the distance.
"I don't think we're going to make it Paco!"
"We can make it if we hurry!" They were getting closer and closer, Nadia was running as fast as she could, it was going to be close. The drawbridge began to lift off the ground.
"Come on you can do this Nadia," Paco whispered inter her ear.
Nadia ran until she got to the edge of the grass. She jumped into the air, she flew through the air like a dragon. They landed on the drawbridge and ran into the town. They made it.
“Where’s the shooting gallery Yesenia?” Paco asked.
“I don’t know, let’s ask around.”
“Ok, let’s get Nadia to a safe place first. She needs to rest.”
“Good idea Yesenia.”
They looked around for a nice shady spot.
"I think there's a spot by Caroline's castle," said Yesenia. "It has a river for some water and some trees for shade!"
"Brilliant Yesenia! Take me to it."
Paco and Nadia followed Yesenia to the destination she described, it was a perfect place.
"Stay out of trouble Nadia. Ok let's try to find the shooting gallery now Yesenia."
They went back to the town to find lots of people they could ask.
"Let's ask the man by the ammo shop," Yesenia said.
They approached the man hoping to get the information they were looking for.
"Hello, my name is Paco and I'm from the Blue Monkey Forest," Paco began. "I'm looking for the shooting range could you show my fairy, Yesenia, and me where to go please?"
"Sure it's not too far from here," the man replied.
They followed him past a few buildings until he stopped.
"Here we are, the town's shooting range"
"Thank you sir," Yesenia said.
"Sure thing, why are you at the shooting range today anyway?"
"I'm going to beat the high score so I can get a rice paddy cow so I can get some rice milk," stated Paco.
"Good luck, the high score is 140 points and a perfect score is 150."
"That means we would have to hit every single target!" Yesenia yelled in a shaky voice.
"We can do it Yesenia," said Paco.
"Good luck I better be getting back to the shop," the man said.
They looked at the sign outside the shooting range. It read "Hours 10-9 Prize for the high score a rice paddy cow"
"Oh no," Yesenia said, "It's too late the shooting range is closed. I have an idea, play the Morning Song to make it morning"
"Good idea Yesenia!"
Paco got out the Trumpet of Macally and began to play the Morning Song. The moon began to fall and the sun started to rise. Shops all around the town started opening up. People began to swarm the streets and do their daily activities. It was like an alarm went off that told everyone what to do. It was morning and Paco was determined to beat the high score. They entered the shop and prepared to win the rice paddy cow.
"Welcome to the shooting range," greeted the shop owner. "Would you like to play? It's only 50 dollars a game. The top prize is a healthy rice paddy cow, but you have to beat the high score of 140 points. Each target is worth 10 points. So would you like to give it a try?"
"Yes, I would love to try. I have traveled all the way from the Blue Monkey Forest to try and beat the high score," replied Paco.
"Do you have a bow and arrow?"
"Yes."
"That's a pretty far journey. Well step up to the step and prepare your bow and arrow"
Paco walked up to the step and took his position. He raised his bow and arrow like a professional.
"Ready."
The targets started to move accros the range like crazy rabbits. Paco fired his first arrow, bullseye. 10 points. The next target started to emerge from the shadows. It was a child coming out of hiding. Paco pulled back the arrow and fired, another hit! 20 points. Three targets shot into the air from the floor.
"This is unexpected!"
Paco aimed below the first target and shot, 10 more poimts. He didn't have much time, the other two targets were falling towards the floor. He loaded two arrows at once.
"Paco, what are you doing?"
"I'm going to try and hit them both at the same time!"
He pulled them back and fired, boom bang! 20 more points. Paco had scored 50 points already but that was only a third of what he needed for the high score. Another target began to raise up from the floor and spin like a top. Paco breathed slowly and concentrated. He pulled back his arrow and fired. Paco thought the arrow was going to miss but it hit it on the edge. 60 points, 110 more points to go. Four targets shot high up into the air. Fire fire fire, bing bang boom, 30 more points for the score. Paco hurried to reload, it was going to be close.
"Hurry Paco! This is the last target!"
Fire! For the win! The arrow flew through the air like a bird. Time seemed to slow down as the arrow neared the target.
"Come one hit it," Paco thought to himself.
Bullseye! 150 points!
"Congratulations you beat the high score!" exclaimed the shop owner. "Would you like your prize delivered to your home or would you like to take it yourself?"
"Take it to my house please, I will meet your men there"
Paco had finally gotten his rice paddy cow. He was finally going to get some rice milk and quench his thirst.
