Today is May 21st. Today is Judgement Day. Today is the day that is marked as the second coming of Jesus Christ... or so said Harold Camping.
Harold Camping, an 89 year old Christian radio show host, has been relentlessly spreading the word that he found the day everything would start. He sticks to what he believes. The man has a mathematical formula, which doesn't make sense at all, that he gathered from events in the Bible.
Now I would dismiss this as one of those conspiracy theories, but this was on a huge scale. People began to quit their jobs, sell everything the owned, use their life-savings to spread the word, etc. It's really... sad. I really do feel sorry for these people. It what makes it even worse, is that he predicted it to happen in 1994 as well.
If you know me, I'm Christian. Albeit being very new to the religion, I still do my research. If anyone would just read the Bible, there is a verse in the Bible that actually says "no man, no angel, nor the his son" will know, but only God himself (See Matthew 24:36, and I do believe it is stated somewhere in Luke as well but I could be wrong). The way I see it, it will be at any given moment in time. Not just on a Saturday at 6 PM in every timezone on Earth. Harold Camping said that everything won't be business as usual. In my eyes, everything will always be business as usual... until that certain time.
Here are the things I am fearing as an aftermath of this:
A lot of people will be out of a job, parents have used their children's life savings for their mission to spread the word, people have sold their homes, and they will more than likely lose their faith.
These people are now prone to suicide. Most have lost everything. They have all been deceived.
This is not funny. I won't lie though I have joked about the prediction, but not at the people. I won't even make fun of Harold Camping, because he is just another human searching for his entrance into Heaven.
I sincerely feel sorry for these people. It's not in my nature to see anyone fall and then chastise them for their false belief. I hope nobody else here does anything wrong to the people that actually believed that the date was real. I also feel sorry for Harold Camping because of what the backlash from his followers will bring.
"But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only. But as the days of Noah were, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. For as in the days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and did not know until the flood came and took them all away, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. Then two men will be in the field: one will be taken and the other left. Two women will be grinding at the mill: one will be taken and the other left. Watch therefore, for you do not know what hour your Lord is coming. But know this, that if the master of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched and not allowed his house to be broken into. Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect." (Matthew 24:36-44 NKJV)
What kind of school do you go to where they tell you the illumenti will kill you, meteors will kill you and the moon with crash into earth andkill you?
Neon - I Dooon''t meaan WE liive till 3000,, But others.
Ram- I think SCIENTIST are just lieing to us.. They first say 1) Mederiod wiill hit earth 2) Moon will hit earth 3) Illuminities will kill us all. I mean : They need to grow up ! Common sense,, As they are scientist .
@Mariah: -.- Scientists were not responsible for this 'apocalypse' stupidity. Scientists are not responsible for the '2012' idiocy soon to come. Religion and a freaking Calender, respectively, are responsible.
I can't keep from snickering at the fact that so many morons sold their houses, possessions, and are now in the 'poor house'. They clearly all wanted to be the richest ones to enter "heaven".
1) World is ending ; 1994
2) World is ending ; 2000
3) World is ending ; 2011
4) World is ending ; 2012
Did the world end ? No !
Will it end in 2012 ? No !
Why do they say it will ? So that they can FRIGHTEN people,, Which they are doiing a great job of !
Why do they want to frighten people ? Well, The reason that they are doing this ,, Is because they want the people to be SO worried,, That the people spend all their money because scientest say it will end !
Who knows when the world will end ? GOD !
Now stop kidding yourselfs and enjoy ,, the rest of your lives.. 2011- 3000 [: Hopefully !
I maintain that if someone will be so foolish as to place their entire futures in the hands of a single book then they are mostly responsible for any repercussions.
the father of evolution (umm.. i forget his name.. charles darwin?..) said that diseas, famin, disasters etc is neccasary and we need more of them. so that it kills off the week and keeps the strong. so the earth wont over populate.
If you are stupid enough to believe the insane ramblings of an old man and you are dumb enough to give up what you own because what someone said, with very little evidence, thenyou deserve what happens after. The world is not made to support complete idiocy.
Nope- i was going to say something like that, then i was all like "Gah, screw this comment, it'll get me banned..."
They are stupid, indeed, lets laugh.
My mention of suicide was unnecessary? Dude... Do some research. Some of the guy's old followers killed themselves after Mr. Camping's first prediction in 1994. The same happened in the late 1990s as well with another cult group.
This happens. Do some research. Google, Bing, Yahoo it.
Okay, I'm not saying humans don't cause a large percentaage of their own problems. That would be a lie. But I just want to use an old phrase:
"To err is human."
So yeah, as Ram mentioned, we do cause many problems. I think his mention of suicide was unnecessary, but I get his point.
But there are still a lot of problems on Earth that we have no control over. I'm surprised that I haven't seen much mention of the earthquakes that happened in Japan. Was that their fault? How about the tidal waves? I don't think so. The nuclear disaster was simple human error, blown up by the media because they had nothing else to do. And yes, building a nuclear reactor in an earthquake-prone area does seem like a bad idea, but it's not our place to judge.
I could go on for weeks, but the result is the same: people are people. Whether they are right or wrong is completely subjective. We let them have their beliefs, and we let them follow it. People should c calm down and let what happens happen.
No, I think I'm still going to laugh at these people, because they're complete idiots. Idiots like them need to be laughed at. Also, if they're gone, that's one more step to solving out overpopulation problem.
@jakeybored "God built our planet crapily" Oh dear God, yes, we humans did NOTHING to cause our current predicament. Deforestation, species extinction, rising global tempature averages... Yep, let's blame that all on God.
And also, if you wish to blame the human race for the destruction of Earth, fine. Go commit suicide then, to "repent" to Earth for the damage. I'm not saying we never hurt it, *coughoilspillscough*, but, point out some more distinct things.
@Jake: Seriously? -_- He built it so "crapily" because we had a chance, and we ruined it. And it isn't so crappy after all if you look at it in a different way.
Anyways, I think this blog was AWESOME 10x. I was waiting for a blog like this to be featured, and smalls did a great job explaining what happened, and what wasn't/isn't going to happen.
