Yeah, Sonic Generations was announced, got a teaser, two gameplay videos, and a confimed 3DS version in the makes.
I just thought I would put my impression of it in a blog that I'm sure none of you really care about reading, but here goes anyway
First: Classic Sonic's Portion of the Game
Ok, Sonic is fat again. I'm just gonna have to live with that I guess.
We're back to only having a spindash and spinjump like in the classics.
Back to 2D levels, which aren't really much of a problem for me
Hopefully he'll keep Genesis Sonic fans happy.
The music we got so far was an enhanced version of the classic Green Hill Zone music from the 1991 Sonic the Hedgehog on the Genesis, which sounded better imo due to the cleaner samples they used for the instruments and the extra harmony tracks (I think thats what they're called) they added.
One specific thing about Classic Green Hill Zone that I would like to point out is that bridge thing that spirals around. Umm.... I know that wasn't the best description.... It was in all the old Sonic games and some of the new ones. Anyway, its a lot wider now, which makes the fact that Sonic has no trouble balancing on it at high speeds a lot more believable now.
Classic Sonic won't say a word though... which sucks... I was hoping they would get either the 4Kids voice actor for him or that they'd make the current voice actor use a high pitched voice or something. You know what, scratch that one about a high pitched voice, that just sounds stupid.
Second: Modern Sonic's portion of the game
Modern Sonic is back! Woo!
Gameplay is the awesome gameplay we got in Sonic Unleashed and Colors!
Music is pure epicness (so far). I don't know if its because the music really is good or because I just like Green Hill Zones music, but I loved the rearrangement. Near the end of each level, the music changes to a calmer version of that levels music as if it's saying "You made it! You can pretty much relax now that you're almost there." You know what that means? No more endless loops that just fade out in the OST, baby! It also means I can stop abruptly stopping and telling whoever is listening, "And thats it. o-o" every time I play them on the piano.
I love the camera angles, the jumping from rail to rail parts, the background scenery, boosting, the fact that boosting is with the square button on the PS3, just everything about those levels! (Or, that one single level!)
Third: The Story
The Story so far is that "some unknown villian" has "opened up time holes" bringing Sonic and most all his friends to the past, where they meet Sonic's childhood, Classic Sonic. Yeah, much speculation can be made there. I just want to say that as long as they put humor in it and they don't make it too serious I don't care what they do. Oh, and I hope they explain Sonic's design change with "Sonic reaching puberty."
Fourth: The 3DS Version
There is going to be a 3DS version! (Yay!)
Modern Sonic is going to have 2D side scrolling gameplay! (Dang...)
but the story is going to only have plot relevent characters! (Ok?)
It's being developed by DIMPS! (No opinion)
Fifth: The Levels
Classic and Modern Sonic both go through the same levels, I think. Actually, I think I read that they get different levels. Oh, and the console and handheld versions are getting different levels. In fact, Green Hill is the only level that is present in all of the versions with both Modern and Classic Sonic. Of course, I could be wrong, so don't take my word for it. I just want Sunset Hill, Neo Green Hill, Route 99, and Angel Island Advance in the Console Versions for Modern Sonic, although I probably won't get that. :/ Anyway, I heard that there will be 3 era's. Classic Era for levels from games when sonic was fat and had black eyes, Modern Era for modern games, and Dreamcast Era for, umm, the middle games or something. My guesses are the following
Classic Era: Sonic 1, 2, 3, 4, and Knuckles, CD, and any other games I missed that came out before Sonic Adventure
Dreamcast Era: Sonic Adventure, Sonic Adventure 2, Sonic Heroes, Shadow the Hedgehog, and thats all I can remember.
Modern Era: Sonic Unleashed and Sonic Colors. Thats it, really.
I hope we'll get some of Unleashed's Night stages playable as normal, non-werehog Sonic.
I want to play the dreamcast era games as classic sonic, as well as Sonic Unleashed.
Angel Island from Sonic 3 would be fun in 3D as Modern Sonic
Hmm... And now for things I don't like about the game
First, it's not getting a release on a console I have (Wii) due to it being an "HD Reimagining of classic games" blah blah blah. Dude, did you see how HD Sonic Colors looked?
Second thing I don't like is that it wont have every level ever from every Sonic game ever reimagined for both Classic Sonic and Modern Sonic, but I guess thats way too much to ask, isn't it?
Thirdly, there are only two playable characters. I want to be able to play as Classic Sonic, Classic Tails, Classic Knuckles, and Modern vesions of everyone that was ever made playable in the new games. Except Big, I guess. Everyone hates him.
Hmm... come to think of it, Modern Sonic's levels wouldn't work with Knuckle's gliding and Tails' flying... they'd have to have there own levels... that would take the fun out of it....... :/ I guess I see why Sega didn't add them, but that shouldn't stand in the way of Classic Knuckles and Tails showing up, or Modern Shadow for that matter, but he's too emo for this game. No offense to Shadow fans, but imagine what it would have been like if Shadow was in Sonic Colors. That would ruin the silliness that made the story work. (any comments pointing out that I didnt do enough research and that shadow was in fact in sonic colors somewhere will be mocked in an immature way. you have been warned)
Sixth: The Sonic Fanbase
The fanbase is generally positive about this, but, uhh, I still hear "someone is going to find something to complain about somewhere" and "I'm getting it for Classic/Modern Sonic only! Y'all suck for liking the other one!" from time to time.
Finally, I'd like to say that, I submitted this for news, but I honestly don't see it as being worthy for news. I'm sure it's full of all sorts of punctuation mistakes like comma spamming (which I'm known for) and it only took me half an hour to type when I know that other people spend days perfecting blogs. I also didn't bother myself to learn BB codes or whatever they're called, because I'm just lazy like that, and I didn't include any screenshots or links that cite my resources or whatever,
I hope reading this wasn't too much torture, thanks anyway. Feel free to write whatever you want in the comments. No seriously. Express your opinion, no matter how much it disagrees with mine. I don't care if it starts flame wars. Do it. Do IT! If you don't, I will say "bawk bawk" and make gestures that compare you to a chicken. You don't want that to happen, right?
Anyway, if this gets popular enough (read as: less than 20 dislikes) I'll do more of them about other stuff.
