A couple months back, I announced that I was working on a web RPG. I have been coming up with ideas upon ideas to make a unique RPG experience, and I have found it.
After throwing out the idea of a mythical fantasy adventure (Yes, I was coming up some really good ideas that I might use later when I can), I came across a really neat idea. Web Development. It has nothing to do with web development, but rather what it's like being a web developer.
So how will it work? Simple. Every web server has terminal software on it. Meaning you input commands, upload files, manage a database, and run a website. Like I said though, you don't do anything but act like a web developer. Easy huh?
Here's how it works. There will be commands like "check database" that will check for errors or issues in the database. Not to mention, running the website itself. If you wanted to create a new feature for a site so that you can garner more users, you would type in "create xxx". For example, "create messages.php" will create a page for your website and could grab some more users. Creating more pages will lead to more users, but will lead to more problems with the server since you are gathering more users.
The idea of it would be boring if it were just singleplayer. That's why I have come up with a competitive multiplayer experience that will make you want to come back for more. Rival websites, friends, linking together websites, and even... Hacking or destroying a website. Not to mention, you can have real users, who also play the game, become admins of your website. The only real issue, is whether or not you can actually trust that person.
The main idea of the multiplayer is to compete against other users for more users and more ad revenue money (Even money that people donate to your site)**.
I have very little code for the game, but I am hoping to get a game demo out later this month, which will display what the game will look like, and have a Beta in late July/early Summer. The game will probably release later this Fall.
I have no set release date for anything, but expect there to be many blogs. This is a game, not a real web developer experience.
