Many people have asked me, "Astra, what does your name mean?" I've decided to write an educational blog with the full meaning explained. Enjoy.
Astra Explained
Astra is a mythological name used in many different pantheons. In my case, the name Astra is traced back to the Greek Pantheon.
Astra: Further Expkained
The Astra Planeta: The gods of the 5 wandering stars or planets. Their names were: Phainon (planet of Kronos, Roman Saturn), Phaethon (planet of Zeus, Roman Jupiter), Pyroeis (planet of Ares, Mars), Eosphoros (planet of Aphrodite, Venus), Stilbon (planet of Hermes, Mercury). In Greek vase painting, they were often pictured as children diving into the Okeanos River with the rising of Helios the sun. NOTE: The planets: Uranus, Neptune & Pluto were invisible to the naked eye. They were undiscovered & unnamed until modern times. These 3 planets were unknown to the ancients.
Parents of Astra Planeta
Pseudo-Apollodorus, Bibliotheca 1.8-9 (translation, Aldrich) (Greek Mythographer C2nd A.D):
"The titans had children...Eos & Astraios. They were parents of Anemoi (the Wind) & Astra (the Stars). All information in this blog was obtained from http://www.theoi.com All links lead to that same site as well. Thank you for reading.
