Not that many people know this, but i suffer from a form of acute schizophrenia myself. this blog is just a few facts to clear the air, some symptoms, and a run through of the different types of this illness.
MYTHS ABOUT SCHIZOPHRENIA
1. A sufferer can tell the difference between a hallucination and reality.
‹/b›this is false. when i have an hallucination, it is so realistic i cannot tell the difference.‹b›
2. you can control it.
‹/b›sadly, you can't.‹b›
3.sufferers are violent.
‹/b›nope. however, i am [for other reasons i am not willing to discuss, however i assure you they are unrelated.]‹b›
SYMPTOMS
you will not know yourself, somebody else will probably tell you that you are behaving oddly. just in case, though, here they are. since there are different types, i shall give the general ones.
1. hearing voices
2. hallucinations
3. paranoia
4. wrong emotions [e.g. laughing at a funeral]
5. less friends / withdrawing yourself from the world
TYPES
general- most common, you hear voices, hallucinate, and get mild paranoia.
paranoid- above but with strong feelings of paranoia and distrust.
acute- acute comes in different forms. [i have acute paranoid, but any kind can be acute]. acute is like regular, only your episodes are shorter, and there is a chance you can recover in some way. acute schizophrenia usually brings with it other things, such as depression.
hallucinogenic- no paranoia, just extreme hallucinations.
