New York State. It's known for many things. One thing it's known for: It's where the fight to legalize gay marriage began. Well, New York State is ALSO now officially the 6th state & the largest state to legalize Gay Marriage. Friday night, it was voted to pass Gay Marriage with the results being 33-29. It should be noted that Religious Institutions are not compelled to follow these ceremonies, & neither are Non-Profit Groups. The New York State SENATE passed a bill earlier on Friday legalizing Gay Marriage with a vote of 82-47. A veteran Republican Senetor, was was unnamed in the article, said to the associated press that he was voting for Gay Marriage. Governer Andrew Cuomo stated that he would sign the bill into law. Gay weddings can begin 30 days after he does so.
I think this is a start. More support, more people realizing that we won't give in. People realizing that we aren't going away, so rather then hate us, why nor give us what we want & maybe shut us up? I don't know, maybe I'm wrong. All I do know for sure: I'm now proud to say I am a NEW YORKER! *Nicki*

Gay Marriage Article
yay for gay marriage ^^ and shame on you luigirules... theres nothing in the bible that says homosexuality hardens your heart or makes you some kind of abomination. your just overdramatizing it like the rest of the world.
The bible in my opoin is stupid. If you read between the lines it says that women are slaves and if they disrespect any man they must die...I'm no religion so ↑ doesn't bother me.
Its stupid how states won't accept how people like one another. So what if a person likes the same gender? Nothing wrong with that... Same with bi. Theres a bi kid in our school and shes the bottom of our schools food chain...She also happens to be my best friend who i protect non stop 0-o
Craig, I agree with your VERY first comment EXACTLY! It's ALWAYS been my argument! Why create them if they weren't wanted?
Also, I created this blog out to spread news, NOT to start a religious argument!
@RoD: Everything is opinionated. Going to war was the "right" decision for the oil industry, in the case of Iraq and Afghanistan. The Crusades were the "right" thing to do, because that was in the name of Beardo and fighting to reclaim [what every religion believes] is a holy spot.
Nothing like Redneck humor, Commander. I'm [not really] surprised at how everyone's using male homosexuality as their basis for saying "it's weird, but I have nothing against it". No one has said "How can a woman feel about another woman that way?" Nope, no one's said that.
[no offense to you, Astra, it's just it's a sexist argument]
I personally have nothing against gay marriages (althouh it creeps me out. I just don't understand how a man can love a man like a woman). But this whole "We're queer, and we're here" crap is really starting to get old.
I have my own quote to share:
"I'm straight, and I'm late, GET OUT OF MY WAY!!"
~Larry the Cable Guy
@Syed A religious nation would be a terrible place to be for anyone. They've been attempted before, and they've uniformly led to mass murdering and an unsurprisingly dissatisfied public. This has less to do with the religion and more to do with the rulers who seek ways to manipulate the public through it.
@Weegee: The discussion has not spiraled out of control completely yet.
@Bip: With marriage of any sort, taxes can be filed as "joint", for one thing. The spouse has the right to health insurance. There are many benefits. Not just sex.
Well, I'm still not jealous of New York. Do I admire them for making the right decision? Yes. Other things? Eh, it's still New York. But, that's a different matter.
Illinois has Civil Unions, so hopefully, we're only a few key debates away from legalizing Gay Marriage.
To all of you saying that Gay Marriage is "wrong" or "weird", how is Hetero Marriage any better? Just because it's been around for ages, doesn't mean it's better. Coal's been around for ages. Look at that. Stagecoaches were around for a while, tehn the steam-powered engine took over, as a more efficient and better overall replacement.
Age doesn't qualify a practice or mechanic instant "righteousness".
Furthermore, I'm sure that this will aid in homosexual couples adopting, no? If the agencies see there relationship as "stable"[by the agency's standards, of course, -.-] then it could lead to adoption for more children, which is a good thing.
The United States is a secular nation, so please get your bible, torah, quran or whatever you weild OUT of public matters. I don' get why do you lot of sorry people want religious nations.
@glishnark its not that their choosing to be gay they are making fun of gays, i may not be gay, but those people just tick me off. if someone loves their own gender and you dont like it just leave it alone
Bip.. people don't have to have children you know. There are plenty of heterosexual people who don't have babies, and don't want them. I fail to see how not having babies would be "horrible"
Don't forget, Frank, that they will also pick and choose which verses they want to keep in when they reprint the bible. You know, to fit with contemporary society while still giving them that false sense of security that they're doing the "right thing."
DEUTERONOMY 22:13-21
If it is discovered that a bride is not a virgin, the Bible demands that she be executed by stoning immediately.
DEUTERONOMY 22:22
If a married person has sex with someone else’s husband or wife, the Bible commands that both adulterers be stoned to death.
LEVITICUS 18:19
The Bible forbids a married couple from having sexual intercourse during a woman’s period. If they disobey, both shall be executed.
MARK 12:18-27
If a man dies childless, his widow is ordered by biblical law to have intercourse with each of his brothers in turn until she bears her deceased husband a male heir.
DEUTERONOMY 25:11-12
If a man gets into a fight with another man and his wife seeks to rescue her husband by grabbing the enemy’s genitals, her hand shall be cut off and no pity shall be shown her.
Leviticus, which includes the passage in which male homosexuality is called an abomination, also prohibits round haircuts, tattoos, working on the Sabbath, wearing garments of mixed fabrics and eating pork or shellfish among others.
What does Jesus say about homosexuality? Nothing
But if we are picking and choosing which Bible verses to practice and which ones to ignore, why not pick this one:
1 THESSALONIANS 5:21
“Test all things and hold fast to that which is good”
You are more than welcome to your own interpretation of the Bible, and politics of course, but for me, I need more than "The Bible says so" to justify certain things in this world and certainly to judge them.
I don't believe that this should be involved with religion, but doesn't God want for everyone to be happy? This is a major accomplishment! Imagine all the lives this will change for the better. I agree with nope.jpg, religion can be quite hypocritical. People have a choice as to what they believe and who they love. If God didn't want homosexuals, he wouldn't have allowed anybody to walk down that path. I fully support gay marriage and think it should be legal everywhere. This is a major breakthrough, so hooray! Congrats Astra! Good blog!
Isn't gayness for males, lesbianism for females, and homosexuality for both genders? Just sayin'.
But wouldn't be awful to marry the same gender? I mean, you don't get to have babies (not in a dirty way). And it'll feel weird if I was a guy kissing a guy. o.o
Great. Another reason why I hate living in NY. I would move from this state [or maybe even the country], but I'm too young.*sigh*...no offense to anybody...but I don't believe gays should marry. It's not because of religion or whatever, I just believe they shouldn't, along with many other things...
I meant the off of what the religion is based on, and how a lot of it's followers act like complete hypocrites in these situations.
Also, if I remember my bible knowledge right, all sins are seen equal in the eyes of "God." So I think I'll keep hooking up with men, because it's no worse than arrogance, or being a bitter person towards others.
@Nope.jpg To be honest, if you don't know what you're talking about, speak you should not. The Bible says that homosexuality is a sin, despite the fact that it is normal for some people. Yet, heterosexual lust (Which ALL guys have had at one point, and likely many times.) The Bible says that lust regardless of sexuality is sin. So I don't find that hypocritical.
yes. i have no problem with homosexuals but God created Man, then made Woman in Man's image. He created us both genders to be together. but He could've created a separete dimension or planet...but then they would go extinct...oh well...
No iffence but god made you and didn't want gays if he did he would have put an Adam and another adam instead if eve so I am not with the gay marriage figh I am honestly sorry but it is the truth!
