Hey Guys... Crym here yet again. So what does Summertime bring us? Maybe sunshine in most states. No school to wake up for. Barbeques. Parties. And going to the pool or theme park. During this time of freedom, who has participated in something fun, that has also helped to raise awareness or benefit? My guess is no one. Don't worry, it is not a bad thing. I am here to inform you of a fun activity, that also is for a good cause.
My job, Toys R Us, is partnering with Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation, to help raise awareness for all forms of childhood cancer. Alexandra 'Alex' Scott, was diagnosed with cancer before her first birthday. In 2000, at the age of 4 she began holding a lemonade stand in her front yard. Being a success, she held a lemonade stand every year following, until in 2004, Alex lost her lifelong battle with cancer at 8 years old. She alone helped raise $1 million despite her illness. She donated all of those proceeds to help fight the disease that she battled and fought til her dying day. Since then, her parents started the Alex's Lemonade Stand, to encourage kids to become aware of childhood cancer, and show there is a way to help.
So how can YOU help? It's just a DSi site, right? Yes, but that does not mean you cannot help. No, I am not asking you to send me money. Here are a few things you can do to assist in this wonderful foundation:
• Take the Alex's Lemonade Stand pledge. With your parents permission, log on to http://www.AlexsLemonade.com and register to hold your OWN lemonade stand in your neighborhood. The Foundation will provide you with all of your necessary guidelines and tips to help assist your Official stand. All proceeds are to be mailed to Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation. A Fundraising profile with your name with be updated with the amount of contributions you collected! It is that easy. And sounds like so much fun.
• Visit your local Toys R Us and Babies R Us store located in your area to make donations there. We accept donations in $1, $3, $5, or $10 at the checkout registers. Every little bit helps. You can make a difference, a dollar at a time if you wish.
There are many ways you can help this organization. If you want to read more, log onto the Official Site (listed above) to find out more ways you can help children out there fighting this disease. Thank you all for reading.
This is sad for me. To tell you the truth, I don't take pledges, and most people don't want to donate. But this seems to me...a happy way of announcing a war against an enemy of heart. This blog also amazed me that 'Alex' raised $1Million for fighting cancer. And every little bit helps.
Nobody does this in my neighbourhood anymore, but I did see one stand. One tiny little stand getting neglected by people passing by. I went over there and bought some :D
