When I released G/net last June, I quickly rushed it as the successor to DSiTabs/net. Sure, it featured the same good old features of DSiTabs/net and had some "functional" gaming related features, but I didn't. As you all may know, G/net is short for myGamingnet... Where was the gaming?
That will all change with the G/net relaunch. It will incorporate those features we have all grown used to in all of these new sites (Oh dear, messages, status, blogs, etc.), but I will be putting more emphasis on gaming. One thing I have noticed about gaming-centric websites is that they usually put their emphasis on forums, mods, statuses, and other useless community features. Yes those are the most used functions, but that's something that needs to change.
One of the major new features I am designing for G/net are "Game Lobbies". Coming from the list of games tied to your profile, you can open up lobbies to challenge people (Or in the case of some games, meet up). Game Lobbies will close upon the user's request after they finalized their game(s). Users will then be asked to rate the users they just played against.
Another new feature that I am designing for G/net will be sharing "Replays". Users will be able to post gameplay videos, also called replays, to their profiles. The only way for users to do this though, is to post them to Youtube. You may wonder why I would add such a feature. Mind you, this is no longer just a DSi site and is being developed for the desktop platform first.
Lastly, there will be "Maintainers". This is a rather tedious task, especially for someone who runs the site all by himself. Maintainers are people who will add games to the "Game Library" so users can easily add games to their profile. Even regular users can help by suggesting the addition of a game.
For the 6,000+ users before... I have devised a plan to let you transfer your old accounts. Sadly, the only things that will transfer are your usernames and passwords (and that you were an original user ).
If you can't tell, this is a rather huge project. It will take some time, but the end product will come out very nicely. Building the site from the ground up is rather annoying. The idea of the site is to not be designed for one demographic, but most them (I.E. PC, Wii, Xbox Live, PSN, DSi, 3DS, etc.). I am still looking at a July release, but if anything comes up... It will more than likely be released in September (I move to Auburn, AL in August and I will also be starting classes at Auburn University during that time).
If you want to suggest a feature, please comment here or email me at Smalls1652@gmail.com.
I'm surprised you actually read this blog before it was featured. lol
Anywho, remember that this is a social website. The only real game that will ever show up on G/net is "Web Dev RPG". All of the other games are found on their respective platforms (Like Wii, PC, DSi, 3DS, Xbox 360, PS3, etc.).
