This blog will have a part 1 & Part 2. The origin Siamese Cat is unknown, it's thought to come from Southeast Asia & it's one of the first distinctly recognized breeds of Oriental Cat. In Thailand, they're one of many different native breeds & they're called Wichien-maat which translates, literally to "moon diamond". As of the 20th century, the Siamese Cat became one of the most popular breeds of domestic cats in Europe & North America. Siamese Cat's are also known as "The Pointed Cat" in some areas, & are known for their distinctly recognizable 'point' marking.
MARKINGS: Thai/Traditional: This type has a short, single coat, the body is elongated, they're high on the legs, they're lithe, but substantial. They have a wedged head, rounded cheeks, & a wedge-shaped myzzle. Their ears are large, but aren't huge. Their eyes are medium to slightly large, & they're a full almond shape, but are not extremely "oriental".
Modern: They are elegant, slim, stylish & flexible, with a well-muscled body. The head forms a triangular shape & presents a thin snout. The eyes are almond-shaped & oblique. Their ears are wide-based & are positioned more toward the side of the head. This positioning should form a perfect triangle from nose-tip to ear-tips. They have long necks & bodies, their tails are wippy & slender, & their fur is short, fine, glossy, & tight & is "painted" to the body & has no undercoat.
The Pointed pattern is a form of Partial Albinism, caused by a mutation in an enzyme that helps with melanin production, called Tyrosinase. The mutated enzyme is heat-sensative & fails to work at normal body temperature.
