WARNING: There are 2 parts to this blog DESCRIPTION: British Shorthairs have dense, plush coats, often-times described as crisp, or cracking. This refers to the way the coat breaks over the curves of the cats body. Their ayes are large, round, & widely set. They can be many colors, but best known are the copper/gold eyes seen in the British Blue Their heads are round & they have full, chubby cheeks. They have large, sturdy, muscular bodies. They have broad chests, shoulders, & hips, & they have short legs with round paws. Their tail is plush, but not fluffy & ends bluntly, or rounded. They have relatively small ears with rounded tips that make their head look domed. Tey have pert, snub noses & slightly rounded chins, this tends to emphasize the cat's powerful jaw & large, broad head. Males tend to be larger then females, & the difference in size is much more noticeable then in your average domestic cat, with your males being, on average: 11-22 Lbs (5-10 Kg) & the females being, on average: 11-15 Lbs(5-7 Kg). Like many other breeds, males might develop prominent cheek jowls, this can distinguish them from the females. The breed is quite healthy, with a life-span of 14-20 years. (see health section) PHYSICAL: This breed is quite strong & many people describe it as having a 'square' body. They are nearly as long, length-wise as they are broad. They have thick legs, to hold their heavily muscled bodies. Often, because of their bulk & muscle, the breed is called the "Bulldog" of the cat world.
TYPES: They come in many colors. Years ago, the blue variation became so popular, it garnered it's own name: British Blue. Though it's still among the most popular, there are many more acceptable colors & patterns, including: black, blue, white, red, cream, chocolate, lilac, cinnamon, & fawn.
