They can be bred as "self" (also known as "solid", which is 1 solid color. Or they can be: Colorpoint, [a=htt://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tabby_cat]tabby[/a], shaded, or bicolor patterns. The cat can also come in the tortoiseshell pattern.
PERSONALITY: •Easy going, but independant
•They take well to being 'indoor-only' cats
•They are calm & not hyper-active
•They will let their owners know if they want to play
•They prefer mouse-type, or stick-style toys.
•They are not lap cats & are content to just sit beside you.
•They are NOSY...they like to watch household activities being carried out & will follow you from room to room to see what's going on.
•They can be lazy•
•They don't get destructive
•They don't need another animal for company, but they will enjoy having a cat with similar personality around. (perhaps another British Shorthair?)
•They aren't particularly vocal, but they will let you know they hungry, etc.
•They do enjoy attention, & being petted...but they don't demand it.
•Most prefer the ground, & don't particularly like being picked up.
•They're intellegent & can learn small tricks spontaneously.
HEALTH: •They easily develop hairballs •They can be prone to obesity when kept indoors &/or fixed, so, watching their diet is essential.
•Due to their rare, Type A blood, comlications have been reported during surgery. Make sure your vetrinarian has all lab work, including blood-type on paper & in your cat's records.
Other then that, these cat's are known to be quite healthy, & again, live approximately 14-20 years.
It was more so just to know a bit more about British Shorthairs, my first cat, who is still alive and quite well, is one. So, it was just for knowledge.
