This is thanks to the longer back legs, & the unique flap of skin that extends from the sides to the back knee, similar to a cheetah's, both of which provide for greater agility & engt of stride.
PERSONALITY: •Often possess musical voices, when stimulated, have been known to chirp, chortle, & many other sounds. •A happy Mau will wiggle, or twitch it's tail & appear to mark it's territory, or spray, though they don't actually release anything. •Very intelligent •They bond closely with their owner, & will even greet them at the door. •Usually require more effort then your average cat. •They can be "lap cats", but they're often, too alert. •Though it's ill-advised by veterinarians & animal care-givers, they love the outdoors & have the ability to avoid almost all outdoor danger if they're carefully introduced to the outside world at an early age. •Not usually social when it comes to strangers of any species, even other cats. •kittens like to test their ability to scratch & attack. •Very difficult to wash unless you have thick skin/thick gloves. •They're dog-like in behavior. •Better suited to life with only 1 or 2 people.
RARITY/COLOR: The acceptable colors are: silver, bronze, smoke, black, & blue/pewter. They always have green eyes, though amber-cast eyes are acceptable in kittens & young adults up to 18 months. Black & Pewter Maus can't be shown, but can be used for breeding. They are rare, with the GCCF having only 200 registered Mau's each year as of 2007.
HEALTH: •Extreme sensitivity to anesthesia, vaccines, & pesticides. •Heart disease •Luxating Patella •Pregnancy is longer then your average, lasting 73 days. Average cats take 65-67. Siamese can take 69. •Temperature Sensitive (prefers warm climates).
