Welcome to the first edition of "Spyware and You".


I. What is Spyware, and why should I care?

Spyware (aka the trojen horse or Rouge Antivirus) is an attempt to make a profit on unsuspecting Windows and Mac Users. Programs will come up telling you to buy an illigitimate (fake) product. It will make a pig squeal, or scream to scare you into buying the product, to get your (or your parents) Credit Card information.

II. How can I protect myself?

By getting an "Antivirus", a program that has a sort of "Antidote" to a virus, and gets rid of it. These can cost hundreds of dollers, but you get what you pay for. Also, don't download any programs that you don't know the publisher of.

III. How do I know if I have a virus?

Viruses that are called "Rouge Antiviruses" or just "Rouges" for short, will not hide from you. They will scream, squeal, make fake scan results, and even block programs! You computer may be Slower then usual, may get BlueScreens (Or the Wheel for all you Mac users), may shutdown randomly, etc...

IV. I saw an Ad that told me I could get a free 3DS, and I clicked it, and got a virus

Whenever you see something thats too good to be true guys, it usually is.

V. I got a popup saying I need to answer a survey to continue, is that a virus?

No, Downloading sites (Like ShareCash, FileMe, etc.) make you complete a survey, so the uploader gets money. I know you want that thing so bad, but you have to get a free 1000$ Walmart gift card, first.
