Welcome Back to another issue of "Spyware and you".
Todays Issue: Updates.
I. What is an update?
An update (Windows Update, for that matter) is a new version of software for Windows. It tells the OS (or Operating System), like Windows XP, Vista (Yuck!), and 7 new security standards, new software, etc.. If you click on the little shield (in Windows XP) or the Windows Box with the Light around it, (In Vista/7) A box will come up and explain what this update does, how big it is, etc., etc.
II. How do I get updates?
You have to a have a working Internet connection (either Wired or Wireless) connected to the computer, The Shield, and/or box type thing (Only in Vista/7) Will come up with a Balloon (The little thing on the task bar that explains things), and say "New Updates are Avaliable." and you can continue on, until you shutdown when a little shield appears next to the Shutdown button. Go ahead and shutdown, but instead of shutting down, your computer will Download/Install updates!
III. My Computer Says that Update Failed.
Well, thats a darn shame. You can get any update you need from the Microsoft Website, (www.microsoft.com) and going to the the download center on the Microsoft Website. Simply look at the failed updates Number it shoud start with K, at least on XP. And look for it!
If you are having trouble update your computer, Please Fiend and Messsage me. I, though only a newbie at this, can usually get the job done right!
If you don't have a working internet connection, it's pretty unlikely you'll get a virus unless someone takes a malicious flash drive and physically puts it in your computer. xD "malicious flash drive".
