I am aware of how short this blog is. It`s a pain in the ass to type on Wii, so live with it.
Recently, I`ve been roleplaying with a good friend of mine for around a week or two via DSiPaint`s messaging system. I`ve really been enjoying it; We have roleplayed about just about everything (action, adventure, romance [no cybering, of course], betrayal, fantasy... that kind of stuff). And, guess what: All of that was crammed into a storyline. *gasp*
However, I entered the new RolePlaying chatrooms expecting to find people who could also follow a story, only to find a pile of failure. Every single RP going on in that room was pointless, retarded crap: No storyline, no adventure, no interesting aspects. Period.
So, today I am writing a blog on how you can have an enjoyable, story-driven RolePlay.
Part one: Characters
Obviously, to have a good story-driven RP, you must have characters. It is suggested that all participants create a character map of themselves before the RP begins. Typically, I`d create a character map by typing a short description of myself like this:
Name: Josh Miller; Hair: Black; Age: 14; Eyes: Blue; Wearing: Basic black TShirt with jeans;
Obviously this info should be changed to match you.
Part two: Plot introduction
After you get a good idea of who everyone wants to be, you gotta use that info to create a story where all participants eventually bump into each other. A common choice is meeting at a school for the first time. Try to discuss this before starting.
Part three: Begin!
Now for the fun stuff! Begin your RolePlay. As you talk with participants, talk like you really would. No smilies, no "lol"s, nothing like that. Of course, throw in some plot twists to keep things interesting (revealing to a friend that you`re homeless, for instance)
And finally, as usual, cybering is still not permitted in chatrooms or anything else.
Marie: Yes bob?
Bob: You stepped on chewing gum Marie: LOL, I did didnt I.
...
I say its better in PMs: Because its only you are your friend, And in a chatroom, Other People will not "like" what you and your friend want to RP. Also, Most Some people troll it. Like:
Marie: Hey Bob, What you doing?
Bob: Writing something.
Marie: Writing what.
*Takis Teh Greek enters*
Takis Teh Greek: HE WRITING A BLOG! HIDE YO BLOG, OR I DECLINE EET.
...
Or.
Marie: ...
Bob: ...
Marie: ...
*Someone enters*
Someone: Hey Guys what can I be?
*A while later*
*Someone else enters*
... : HEEEY, what can i be?
thats only when non-rpers go to the rp chatrooms @ShadowBullet when i do a fight in an rp i go like this "/me slices right", "/me dogdes and headbutts", etc.
anyway, its hard to plan out an rp. but from now on ill ask where we want the rp to end up
Very good points! I agree completely with all of them and I think planed rp's that follow a storyline are much more enjoyable than a pool party or something. But sometimes getting other participents to cooperate is diffucult; people tend to "clique" up and ignore everyone else, and some people are just not smart and stink at following a storyline.
Anyways, nice guidelines, but I doubt anyone will follow them. I only ever see RP's involving water. Like Hot tub RP's or Pool party RP's etc. Which is mainly why I don't RP, but it's fun to troll the noobs who do pool partys. Lol
I used to Roleplay on roleplaying websites ;P It's pretty fun when you have an interesting story, and lots of depth. It's like writing a story with another person/other people. I might get back into it if I can find an interesting website.. I wouldn't rp here because I'd find it hard to in a chatroom.. smaller messages, scrolling.. the fact that most people seem to suck at it here xD From what i've seen, at least.
