NOTE: This blog has 2 parts! INTRO The Sphynx is also known as the Canadian Hairless & is a breed of cat that is quite rare. They are most known for their lack of fur. The Sphynx of today originated from Canada (there was an earlier attempt to create a hairless breed, originating from England, but the attempt died after the male hairless showed no interest in breeding & the female hairless lost 2 litters of kittens).
DESCRIPTION & COLOR: Although these cats appear to have no coat, this is not the case. They actually have fine downy sparse hair covering their body called vellus hair. They have a skin texture that resembles a likeness for chamois leather. Because they have no pelt to aid thrm in warmth, they take to cuddling with other animals & people,b& will even sleep with you under the covers at night. Touching them feels warm, also because of thrir lack of a coat & they might have whiskers & eyebrows, ehich may appear whole or broken, but it's not uncommon to lack both completely. The color of their skin is what their fur would be. Any color pattern, & marking known to cat's is acceptable. They'll have a wedge-shaped head with large ears & eyes. Sturdy, & heavy bodie. It's VERY common for a Sphynx to have full, round bellies, or pot bellies.
CARE: Although you'd think having no coat would require little work, These cat's actually require a high level of attention when it comes to grooming. Due to their lack of coat, they don't need to be brushed, but they DO need more frequent baths, at least once weekly. Their exposure to the sun should be limited, at best, due to thir tendency to develop sunburn, much like a human. They should never be allowed to roam outside alone for various health & behavioral reasons. SEE PART 2
