"So, basically, one of our warlocks is going to die?" Vergil said. Colby sucked in a sharp breath. The twins shared a look. Shadow's face stayed tight and I wondered what was running through his mind.
"Not just any warlock." Anna-Marie said, "One of the warlocks in this tunnel." The look on her face was strange. She almost looked... Pleased. I kind of wanted to hit her.
"Well, who here is a warlock?" Colby asked.
"Me." Shadow said, gravely.
"Us." The twins said in unison.
"And me." Anna-Marie added. My eyebrows shot up. If she was a chil of Lillith why would she be pleased about one of her own dying, especially since she it could be her. The glint in her eyes made me think she knew something.
"So, it could be any of you." I observed. I bit my lip. This was bad. I mean, if it happened to be Anna-Marie I wouldn't
exactly cry over it, but if it was Shadow? The guy was like my older brother. Well, a second, less annoying one. If it was him.., and the twins just seemed so sweet...
No. I couldn't think like this. I'd psyche myself out and I wouldn't think straight. It would all be fine... Hopefully.
"I'm sure it's just coincidence." I laughed, nervously. Anna-Marie gave me an annoyed look that clearly said 'You are an idiot'.
"The Mark of Lillith is never 'coincidence'."
She said, patronizingly. I gave her my best 'You're not that smart.' look.
"Well, there's a first time for everything." I snapped, indignantly. Her 'I hope one if them croaks' attitude was grinding my nerves. Anna-Marie narrowed her eyes at me.
"The Mark is never wrong." she hissed.
"You just want one of the warlocks to die!" I yelled, feeling my ever reliable temper flare. "And I hope it's you!" As soon as the words left my mouth I knew I shouldn't have said them. Anna-Marie's fingers twitched and she muttered something. She flicked her hand in my direction. A streak of blue light shot towards me. I ducked, but the light hit Colby. He promptly turned into a frog.
"Anna!" Jason shouted
"Fallyn!" Shadow groaned.
"Oh, crud, Colby!" I yelped.
"Dillon!" one of the twins shouted. We all slowly turned to look at him.
"What?" he said "I felt left out." I rolled my eyes and picked up my now slimy brother, he croaked loudly.
"Why would you day that?" Shadow asked, trying to keep his calm.
"Why would you try to turn her into a frog?" Jason demanded, turning to Anna-Marie.
"Because I don't like her," we both snapped at the same time. We glared at each other.
"Change him back." I ordered. Colby ribbited. "Now."
"It'll wear off in a few hours." she sneered. I clutched the knife at my side.
"Fallyn." Drake said, speaking up for the first time in a while. "She's not worth it."
"And who do you think you are?" Anna-Marie snarled, training her gaze on him.
"Anna-Marie Debreevs." Jason snapped "Stop it. Now." Anna-Marie gave me one last glare before stomping off down the tunnels. Virgel sighed and followed. The twins shared a look the skipped merrily after them, shortly followed by Lukas. I looked pointedly at Shadow.
"Can I please hit her?" I asked, moving Colby to my shoulder. Jason grimaced.
"Sorry about her." He apologized "She's used to having all the guys to herself. She's extremely possessive. Plus she just, doesn't like pixies."
"Well, I assure you," I scoffed "Pixies don't like her either." Jason laughed. Shadow gave me a tired look.
"Fanning the flames isn't always a good idea, Fallyn." he said. I rolled my eyes.
"Neither is just letting them burn you." I shot back. We started down the tunnels and I somehow managed to get squished between Jason and Shadow.
"So, Fallyn, what's your specialty?" Jason asked.
"Um..." I replied, like the genius I am, "Shadow?"
Shadow rolled his eyes and Colby croaked loudly on my shoulder.
"She doesn't have one." Shadow said. "She's good at everything. We refer to her as special ops, but really, we just don't know how to classify her."
Jason's eyebrows shot up, "And you're a pixie?" he clarified
"Yup." I said cheerfully.
"What's your element?" he asked. I hesitated.
"I..." I mumbled.
"We don't know." Shadow finished. "To be honest, pixies elements aren't supposed to come in until they're sixteen, and Fallyn's not quite there yet. But, there are times when it seems like she can control them all. Her mom did."
"Really?" Jason said. I shrugged.
"And you're-" Jason was cut off by a loud bang. I looked at Shadow, then Jason.
"Anna-Marie?" Shadow asked.
"Anna-Marie." Jason confirmed. All three of us groaned and took off running down the corridor, Colby croaking in complaint when I almost dropped him.
If she'd turned anyone else into a frog....
