I have a passion for making stuff transform into something beautiful and attractive. I've always dreamed of redecorating a room with my own two hands, and one day I decided I would conquer my bedroom and make it into a room that reflected ME. Take a look at the pictures below-Before:
]After: This blog is all about the basics of room design, from picking decor that reflects you, to saving money in the redecoration process. Let's get started!
we'll begin with your bed (see second picture). It is the centerpiece of your room. It should be where everything else evolves and branches out from. so it's pretty important to do it right.
First, decide what colors you want for your room. Pick a base color and a few more colors that go with it.
Next, look online or at stores for bedding sets. You can piece it together manually, but it's generally pricier. It's okay if you don't know what you're looking for: I started out wanting a watercolor floral and ended up with multi-pop stripes! Just browse around and see what catches your eye. Visualize how it would look in your bedroom.
DON'T BUY RIGHT AWAY! You can always go back and get it later. One mistake I made with my first bedding set (the polkadot one) was that I saw it, liked it, and bought it, with out looking anywhere else for something I might of liked better, or something that was cheaper, or something of better quality. I regretted that later.
A good starting place in in the sale or clearence section. Just becuase it's been marked down doesn't mean it's because it's ugly or bad quality!
You can also ask your friends if they have any bedding they don't want or don't use. Once you was it and maybe patch it up, something they didn't like may be something you love!
Once you get a bedding set, depending on what it comes with, you may need to buy a sheet set and throw pillows. Mine was on sale because it was only a comforter and sham.
Choose your sheets wisely. They are what touches your skin when you sleep, therefore, they should be comfortable and soft. a lot of stores sell what's called Tee-Shirt Sheets. They feel as soft as a worn in tee shirt, and they are as just as good as any million-thread count sheet set out there.
Your sheets can be solid or patterened. If you want your comforter/ quilt to stand out more (for instance, if it has a big picture on it), I'd recommend solid sheets that don't distract from the comforter/ quilt. If your comforter/ quilt is patterned (polka-dots, stripes, etc.), you could pick out some patterened sheets that coordinated and still where a different design. Make sure the design theme is still similar and that the colors are the same as some in your comforter/ quilt.
Then there's the bedskirt. sometimes the come with your bedset, sometimes in the sheet set, sometimes in the bedding set. It all just depends. Bedskirts should match your sheets, preferably.
Next, throw pillows. They are what ties the bed together. If you have a twin bed, limit the throw pillows to one or two. Full bed? You can do up to four.
Throw pillows should have a 3D design or texure to them. They add extra dimesion and depth to the bed. Try to pick one shaped and one square, if you do two. Mine is a cylidrical shaped pillow with a slightly raised melon seed texture. My second one is a large square with a poodle- fluff fuzz all over it.
Then pick out a throw You can also get a body pillow, as these are good to hold up a pillow arrangement. Then is the throw blanket. This is sort of optional; you may not have the money or might not want one. Pick a throw blanket in a color shade that's not very obvious in your bedding so far.
Lastly, the head of your bed. Rhyme unintended. I had a really ugly, old-fashioned headboard (pic 1), and hated it. I wasn't about to let it ruin my new look. So, WITH MY PARENTS' PERMISSION, I took it off. Then, I bought a canister of sticker wall decals. I made an archway over the head of my bed in place of my headboard. It helps my bed be the center of the room even more.
I worked really hard on my room and this blog, so please tell me if you liked it and if it helped you. If it's popular enough, I'll continue with the next part. Thanks for reading!
I want to redecorate my room but it's small and half of it is my brothers. if I could I would have my bed in the middle then on the left side of it my amp and guitar with a stool on the other side my desk with all my art stuff then put up my les paul and strat poster and my halo poster and the australia map.
Woot I sold my mazda for 50 dollars more than I bought it. >FT<
Very nice blog. +1
Money: .. So, how to get it? Heres what I do. I buy things [expensive guitars and stuff like that] and sell it for more. Now, I use Ebay, but you don't need Ebay to do this. Example: I spent 299 dollars on an Ibanez Artcore guitar and had it fixed up for 50 dollars. Then I sold it to someone for 400 dollars. So my net profit was 49 dollars. Easy?
Your new room looks great! I've been wanting to change up my room. I'll take your advice(and sprinkle it with some manly powder xD) and get started on my bed, once I start my job and earn some money.
