The Anatolian Shepherd Dog. It's a very rare, considerably large breed. These dogs will adopt & protect anything, be it animal or human. These dogs are so large, that their sheer size can pose a hazard for homes with young children.
DESCRIPTION Large & rugged, Anatolians are impressive animals. Built for speed, endurance, with thick, muscular necks, & long backs. Their coats are rough, with thick, protective undercoats & come in any color. Thick fur forms a ruff around the neck. Theit large, wide heads hold a square muzzle with black lips & neat triangular ears that hang down. Their tail, which is usually carried low, has a natural curl. They are impressive in size with a height of 28-32 in (71-81 cm) & a weight of 90-150 lb (41-68 kg). Their grooming needs are moderate (they shed constantly in the spring).
PERSONALITY •Stubborn, independeant, & even forceful.
•Have a mind of their own.
•Very suspicious of strangers.
•Not good as companian dogs.
•Needs contant human interaction.
•Not for frail, new, or weak owners.
•Very noisy, especially at night.
•Very territorial
•Superb guard dogs.
•Extremely protective & possessive of it's "flock."
•No matter how much training they receive, they won't obey unless they choose to.
•When not properly trained or socialized, they can become overprotective, uncontrollable, & even aggressive.
•Housebreaking is extremely difficult, even impossible at times because of their stubborn independance. HEALTH •Anasthesia sensitivity is an issue. Speak with the surgical vetrinarian before any procedure your Anatolian receives.
