I was so startled by the noise, I dropped Colby, who once again croaked loudly in protest. I stooped to grab him.
"What was that?" Jason shouted above the rumbling.
"Does it look like I know?" I yelled back. I stumbled as the ground beneath me shook violently.
"Shadow!" Vergil shouted "What do we-"
"Vergil move!" Lukas shouted. Vergil looked up and dove to the side just as a large chunk of ceiling fell right where he'd been standing.
"Is Kat doing this?" I asked, loudly. Backing against a wall. Shadow frowned.
"No, she can't create quakes like this." Shadow replied. The twins were backing slowly towards a wall opposite of me.
"Can you stop it?" Lukas yelled. I bit my lip. Colby croaked again. I looked at him. He nodded his froggy head towards the wall were the twins were standing. It was that mark again. What had Anna-Marie called it? ... Lillith! The Mark of Lillith. I muttered a curse.
"Shadow, the mark!" I yelled.
"What?" he shouted back.
"The- Oh my-" I yelped, diving away as the ceiling I'd been standing unde gave way. I scrambled away, clutching Colby desperately.
"Fallyn!" Vergil shouted. I dodged massive chunks of earth and ceiling, praying I did't get crushed. Then, just as soon as it started, the rumbling stopped. I doubled over, trying to catch my breath.
"Oh... My... Gods..." I panted "Did that... Really... Just happen?"
"No, Fallyn it was all an illusion." Vergil said, dryly. I could practically hear the eye roll in his voice. I raised my head to glare at him.
"Does that happen often?" Jason asked. I straightened up, grateful I'd been able to keep my grip on Colby the Frog. He croaked, meekly.
You know you're going nuts when you cam get emotions out of a frog's croak.
Shadow shook his head.
"Not at all." he replied "I don't understand... Kat can't be doing this... She can't create quakes that size... Normally just tremors that we can barely feel."
"But this has happened," Dillon began
"Twice." Spencer finished.
"And both times the mark of Lillith appeared." I interjected. They all looked at me weird. I pointed at the wall where the mark was glowing.
"Well." Lukas said "That's not good."
"They're connected." I said "They've got to be. It makes sense, right?" Shadow frowned again.
"Yeah, I guess." he said, rubbing the back of his neck. "But I don't like it."
"You don't like a lot of things." Vergil muttered. Colby gave another one if his croaking laughs, then something disturbing happened. The croak hitched and became human sounding laughter. I looked at Shadow, deeply disturbed. He shrugged. Thee was a flash of bright light and instead of a frog I was holding a seventeen year old vampire in my arms.
"Hey, sis." he said, cheerfully "Thanks for carrying me." I rolled my eyes and dropped him, letting him land ever so gracefully on his bum.
