These are called tags. Profile support a costum rich text system, which makes use of several tags, like [ b ] bold. You can get the full tag list in Hullbreach's blog list, go to his profile and browse his blogs. There are also several member blogs explaining how to use and what are tags, use the search option in the bloglist.
