'...If you can make a heap of your winnings
And lose it all on pitch-and-toss
And start again from beginnings
And not breathing a word of your loss...' From David P Brown's poem.
What does that all actually mean? I'll tell you what it isn't: gambling. You see this paragraph has significance in the way we choose to live our lives.
For example, on here. When you post a blog that you put tonnes of effort into only for it to be frowned upon. Instead of complaining why don't you try again? Face the criticism, learn from it. Think of it as advice rather than negative feedback.
When it says not to speak of your loss, don't have the first line saying 'Reposted due to trolls flaming my blog. Please don't flame again!' instead use all the advice on the previous blog, improve spelling, punctuation, sentence structure etcetera etcetera. Don't however say anything about how much effort you put into the previous blog. Turn over a new leaf.
What about in other situations? Say if you fail at a task and you know that you tried your best. If you can accept a loss and try again you have already succeeded. And that my friends is the difference between failure and success. Which is the same as the difference between failing and giving up and failing, accepting a loss and trying again.
I do skydiving.
When I pull the magic cord, and a parachute is deployed to slow me down, I am successful!
But when I pull the magic cord and nothing happens, I am......Eh....Fai-....eh...fai..eh I mean, it is a fail.
But when I pull the magic cord and realise it isn't actually there, as I left the backpack in the overhead locker on the easyjet, What does that mean?
