Making a DSi Format site - The complete guide This is very simple. This is a somewhat complete guide on how to make the best DSi Compatable site you can with little to no HTML skills.
-----------Setup-----------
First, you will want to download Microsoft Office 2007. I haven't tried 2010 beta, but this is most likely the best choice. It is very, VERY expensive (around $700 dollars, but just keep reading), but you can just get 2007 beta. I strongly do not reccomend torrents. Not only are they illegal, but also complicated. The main application you want is Publisher 2007 (the beta should have most features). After you get it in some way, shape, or form, start it and click "Web Sites". Now, go down to the blank templates. Click the down arrow on any template and choose "Duplicate". A window will pop up. Choose the name as "DSi Format". This is actually optional, but it is easier to identify. Set the width to be "240px" and the height to "352px" (both screens) or "176px" (one screen). Set all the margin guides to 0. Keep the layout type set to Web Page. Hit OK and your ready to go!
------------Building the site------------
Double click on the new template. Go up to the bar that says "Insert" and hit "Picture". A menu will come out. Click "From File". Insert whatever background, logo, or anything else you want as media. I will put a part at the end on how to make a proffesional logo for your site (also using Microsoft Office). Add media to your site as needed. Below is a complete list of what thing does what.
Text box- Inserts a box that you can type in.
Table- A table in which graphs can be made.
Wordart- Very, very useful. Allows you to add epic fonts to any text.
Clip art- Browse a database of pre-included photographs.
Line- A line.
Arrow- Same thing as line, except an arrow is at the end.
Oval- A circle/oval.
Rectangle- A square/rectangle
Autoshape- Some shapes.
Hot Spot- Add hyperlink anywhere on page
Form Control- Allows you to add Form elements (text box, submit button, ect)
Bookmark- Sorry, but I don't know what it is, but by the look of it, you won't use it much.
HTML Code Fragment- Add any HTML code that isn't included in Publisher.
Use this stuff to build your website quickly and easily.
Once your page is fully complete, go to "Tools" and click "Web Page Options" to set your Page Title, File Name, description and keywords.
Click "File" and save it to a destination of your choice (I usually make a folder for every site). Then go back to "File". Click "Publish to the Web". Go to the folder for your site (Again, optional, but it's highly recommended) and publish. It will create a folder with all of the files (ex. index_files). DO NOT RENAME/DELETE THIS FOLDER. As well, it will have an .htm file (ex. index.htm). Continue building your site in Publisher and publish them to the same folder. Be sure all of your hyperlinks work before saving. It's a real pain in the ass to go back and fix all of your links.
-------------Before uploading---------------
If uploaded in it's current state, the page will not look like DSiPaint or any other DSi Site. In order to make this happen, you must add this code to the <head> tag.
<meta name="viewport" content="width=240">
Remember to put < and> at the beginning and ends!
But, if your page uses both screens (352px height), you must add another code to the <body> tag.
----------Uploading the Site----------
DO NOT USE WEBS. Webs will make a banner on every page that runs the DSi out of memory. Instead, for no Memory lackage, use Vistapanel.net. Sure, the domain extension is longer. So? I mean, webs makes you have a Webs.com banner. Vistapanel is better overall. I would try co.cc, but I couldn't figure it out.
After the Vistapanel registration, confirm your email and login. Go to "Online File Manager" and click on "htdocs". Once in that folder, minimize the web browser. Go to the folder with all of your website files. Highlight all of the files, right click, and hit "Send to". Once there, hit "Compressed (zip) folder". Name the Zipped folder whatever you want. Bring up the Online File Manager window again. Click upload and go to the right of the page. Here, you can upload a Zip folder and it will extract all of the files. Click "Browse" and upload your new Zip folder. Depending on how large the file is, it will take a few seconds. If successful, you will be on a page displaying all of the unzipped files. Click the Back arrow on the page. Next, go onto your DSi and test the site. Click EVERY SINGLE LINK. This is just to be sure no links are broken. If all links work, you are ready to advertise. Try affiliating it with some popular DSi websites.
-----------Making a Logo-----------
First, start Microsoft Office Powerpoint. On a new slide, start adding pictures, autoshapes, and text to the slide. When it's finished (the logo), highlight all of the items, right click, and group them. Then right click and hit "Save as Picture". On the "Save as type" menu, save it as jpeg. Your logo is now complete and ready to use!
That's the guide, and if you have any questions just message me. I look forward to seeing your sites!
Im using 000freehost.com, but I have aa problem. Ive uploaded my files in the right directory but when I go to my site it doesnt show my site, go to it urself and see, http://www.dsigalaxy.vacau.com
Is publisher free, or are you promoting piracy of software? You need to make this clear. I will check back later today to see if the blog has been made clear. Remember that free software like Mozilla Composer does exist.
