Hello my fellow readers, today you are going to read a review on the SkullCandy Full Metal Jacket headphones, please note that i am no audiophile, i just appreciate nice music and good headphones and i will gladly share with you the experience i've had so far with my pair of SkullCandy FMJs, featuring of course, 3D pictures. Who has a 3DS or a computer with a 3D screen will be able to see them, otherwise don't worry these are viewable in 2D as well.

FMJ's cost 70 USD in Skullcandie's official site, but you can get them much cheaper if you make some research, i live in Brazil and i got them at around 60 USD.

So, lets start off with sound quality.

As i mentioned before, i am no audiophile, i am just a guy who likes music, with "average" quality (or best quality, in .mp3 therms.) and good headphones. So, why i bought the Skullcandy FMJs? For gaming on my 3DS, of course, for listening to music on my 3DS, and for having good isolation. As anyone who uses a 3DS for listening to music may have noticed, the 3DS is factory limited to Not let you play musics beyond the volume considered "ideal" in therms of safety. The volume in headphones not only depends of the device it receives music from, it depends of its sensibility. Most non-professional headphones in the market come with a sensibility of 95db or 100db, anything beyond 100 is considered good, and for its price the FMJs are very good, it has a sensibility of 107db, so expect a greater volume coming from your 3DS with these, compared to cheaper headphones.

The Bass, is a DEEP BASS (lower frequencies), it is very good very detailed, some reviewers in the Internet even say its an "audiophile quality" bass, whatever that means...i am not an audiophile. The frequency range is 18hz to 20khz, most headphones in the market are ranged 20hz to 20khz...I know you are asking yourself "but 18hz is bellow the Human's hearing range so why it is there?", these lower frequencies are put in headphones because they are more felt than heard, must be one of FMJ's "deep bass" secret.

The mid and higher frequencies are Ok, they are decent enough for FMJ's price, if you take my opinion into consideration. Don't forget you buy more than the sound quality in these headphones, but if you are REALLY looking for Supreme quality i guess you should look elsewhere. The sound is crisp, well i listen to a lot of rock..the Bass is incredible and the guitar sounds are good enough for my taste, but compared to the Bass the difference Is noticeable. Have i mentioned Drum heavy Rock/Metal sound awesome here? If you have these, or buy these, or happen to try these, go ahead and Try "Evanescence - Going Under" and/or "Slipknot - Dead Memories" to get a better image.

Build Quality and Isolation

Isolation is a problem when you listen music with your 3DS, since you can't suppress external sounds by raising the volume (Mentioned before: its limited from factory), and i recommend NOT doing that, listening to music at very high volumes will screw your auditive capabilities and you'll lose it gradually, faster than it is naturally supposed to. The FMJ's offer some very good isolation, better than the Titans, i'd risk to say they are the most isolating in-ear Skullcandy Headphones, maybe losing to the Skullcandy FIX which have inferior listening quality. For better results in both quality, volume and consequently isolation; listen to 320kbps .mp3 files, these are heavier than average quality .mp3 ...but with these headphones you'll want to use a little bit memory for your music, the quality difference is very noticeable.

The plug is 3.5mm, it will fit any mp3 player, its gold-plated therefore its a very good conductor.

The cord? Well, it tends to tangle but i have to say it is very comported! The quality, well, i've been using it for a few weeks now and i am not really VERY VERY gentle with headphones..since i carry them around, its impossible to babysit these 24h a day -.-. Whatever, they are supposed to be portable and durable right? Yeah, the FMJs are. Its made of some kind of metal, covered with a plastic-like material, and in the end of each part (cord divisor, in-line control, earbud) there is a little protection, (white, in the case of the Chrome model) these do a nice job protecting the weak points of the cord, i'm really pleased by Skullcandy for paying attention to this detail, the last headphone i owned failed because of these "weak" points, who were unprotected.

The in-line control is very convenient, a bit hard to find by touch but once you get used to it, you'll have no problems. Click it once and it pauses your music, twice and i will change to the next music in the list (100% compatible with the 3DS). There is a Mic too, and it works with the 3DS, the quality is slightly better than the 3DS mic, it doesn't block much outside noise or wind but its a basic, working mic, ideal for voice chatting! The FMJs are also designed for the iPhone (3GS and bellow) and BlackBerry so it will work with them, the in-line control also answers calls.

The Package comes with 8 different tips, 4 silicon tips (plus the 2 in the headphones) and 4 foam tips. I tried the foam tips and..it lasted me roughly 2 weeks, they have better isolation but get dirty easier and are harder to put on, the Silicon tips are very convenient to clean (you can take them out and use alcohol and cotton swab). There is also a fancy Skullcandy carrying case included, you can even use it to clean the 3DS screen! it will not scratch it, i used it myself, and honestly... it really does the job o.o .

Comfort

Everyone has different ears, even with 4 silicon tips for you to choose you might not find the right one for your ear-shape, i had to pick the smaller one included in the package. Remember, these are in-line headphones, to get a good seal you'll have to put them inside your ear-canal, i have to say that listening to very long periods might be a little painful for some people's ears, i often take them out a little and leave them a little outside my ears, this helps a lot...and they still not fall off, even when i shake my head vigorously, never had problems with them falling off.

And...i guess thats pretty much everything i have to say about these, i hope you enjoyed my blog! and i recommend these headphones, they are 100% compatible with the 3DS and you'll even have a mic to voice chat at any game.
