I slowely trudged up to my bedroom, my heart feeling like it was dropping to the floor beneath me. I reached my room and listlessly pushed open the door. The sun was just starting to set, and the room was dark, except for the piercing sunlight shooting through the hall window behind me. It pushed past me and made a sharp streak across the path off the open door on my bedroom carpet. I wearily looked up, and saw Lucy’s stuffed animal lying forlornly in the middle of my makeup mess on the ground in front of me.
I shuffled heavy hearted the few feet between me and the dirty little rabbit. I bent over and picked it up, looking at it with tears filling my eyes. I was a horrible sister; Lucy might die thinking I hated her and didn’t love her at all.
With a choked sob I collapsed on my bed, clutching the solied stuffed animal to my chest, my face buried in my pillow. My back heaved as I sobbed silently, wishing desperately for some comfort. I suddenly remembered Sean, and with a pitiful sniff, I grabbed my phone and dialed his number.
“…Hello?”
I managed to hold back my tears as I tried to talk to him.
“Sean? I-it’s Grace… I- m-my sister is in the hospital, a-and-“
I stopped short as I heard Sean laughing at someone on his end, and yelling something sarcastic at them. I decided to try and finish.
“…A-and we don’t know h-how bad it i-is a-and I just needed to-“
Angry tears spilled out of my eyes as I heard obnoxious laughing on his end. He wasn’t listening to me.
“…Hahaha…s-sorry Grace lol, hey, can I call you back a little later? Grayson is totally- HAHAHA!!”
I felt a burning lump in the back of my throat.
“…S-sure-“
I slammed my phone shut and threw it across my bedroom, hearing it sickeningly crash against my bedroom wall. Just then, I heard the doorbell ring.
“Oh crap it’s Mrs. Lowe…”
I swiftly drew my arm across my eyes and, still holing the rabbit in my left hand, I ran downstairs. I swung open the door, expecting a little, elderly lady, instead to find myself face-to-face with Timothy. I tried to smile, even though I knew my eyes were red and swollen and my face tear stained.
“H-hi, Tim! Why are you here?”
Tim cocked his head and looked down at my slightly, being a few inches taller. He suddenly got a very compassionate look in his green eyes, like he knew I was in trouble and needed help.
“Nothing, really… just wanted to see if your math homework was coming along okay… is everything alright, Gracie?”
His last words were spoken very gently and quietly, and his question made me crack. I fell to my knees in the doorway and let out a twisted sob, and in an instant Tim’s arms were around me. He helped me inside and sat down on the couch with me.
“It’s fine, just cry, and when you’re ready to talk you can. And I’ll stay until you don’t need me anymore.”
(Oh my gosh! Seiously!? It's been over a month since I wrote a new chapter!?!?! Good grief! Well, sory for the late, REALLY late, chapter, as usual. I got waaay behind in school and had to put the peddle-to-the-meddle and catch up before it got even worse. BUT I shall try to post new chapters more frequently now! Tell me what you thought )
