Most of us know the Taj Mahal to be a strange beautiful building in India. But there is alot more to it.
This building was built between 1631-1648 in memory of Mughal Emporers (Shah Jahan) favourite wife, Mumtaz Mahal.
It is a beautiful Jewel of Muslim Art made of marble that has it's own way of reflecting the day. It glows silver in the moonlight, soft pink at dawn and echoes the fiery tints of the setting sun.
It's an octagonal structure capped with a large dome and has numerous alleys and basins of water.
The materials contained within the walls of the taj mahal came from all of India and Central Asia.
It contains false tombs and the actual tombs of Mumtaz Mahal and Shah Jahan. Both sets of tombs are inlaid riches.
It was added to UNESCO's world heritage list in 1983 and is a cultural site, with significance to muslims.
It's one of the world renowned "7 Wonders of TheModern World" which is partially why it was added to the world heritage site list, aside from its astonishing cultural beauty.
Mughal emporer spent his last days in a prison, enslaved by his own son, gazing over the tomb of his beloved wife until one day he passed away and joined her.
I believe you mean wonder of the "modern" world, which includes sites like Mt. Rushmore, Great Wall, and others - if my memory serves me correctly. The ancient wonders included the Hanging Gardens, Lighthouse, Statue of Zeus, The Colossus, and the Great Pyramids (the only surviving of the group). I don't remember the full lists of these, so someone should look them up for accuracy.
