__River Song__


Listen. Trout,

Your colorful scales gleam
in the bright sunlight.
You sway your tailfin
back and forth
in such a beautiful pattern.

Listen. Frog,

Your long legs stretch
as you leap onto a stone.
Your tongue flails about
as it reaches out to snatch
a dragonfly passing by.

Listen. Otter,

With a flicker of your feet,
you glide through the water.
You roll onto your back,
belly up, as you let
the current move you along.

Listen. Girl,

You sit at the river's edge,
and stick your feet in the water.
You gaze up into the sky,
wondering what it would be like
to be as free as the river.
